Am I correct that, as a general rule, when an escort says he’s a versatile top that he may bottom, but only if he really feels comfortable doing so with you at the moment? I’ve seen some attractive versatile tops on Rentmen but I’ve never hired them because I like a guy who I know is going to bottom. So, I’ve hired only bottoms or versatile bottoms. Am I missing out on some good times being this restrictive?

Sadly I've found this to be very misleading and often a bait and switch. For example, recently in advance of meeting a versatile top I stressed my desire to flip fuck and the escort agreed. Yet when I showed up he only wanted to top. Had I known this, I never would have hired him. And, I've had the same experience with "versatile bottoms".

When someone lists versatile top it can mean a few things. Mainly I take it to mean that the guy prefers to top, but will bottom. He may bottom under certain circumstances... i.e. offering more money, his mood, his attraction to his client, or just simply asking if he will.

 

It could also mean that the guy is versatile in every interaction, except anal penetration. He'll kiss, suck dick, and rim even... on you and you on him, but he won't bottom.

Bottoming also involves pre-sex clean-up which the escort may not want to do on any particular day. It’s extra work.

I feel your pain. I hate the versatile/top label (and the versatile/bottom one for that matter).

 

Top, bottom, and versatile should cover the options without confusion.

 

Alas, we are stuck with shades of grey. To answer your question, yes you are missing out.

Just be upfront and frank. "I'm a top who likes to fuck. Is that cool with you?" Is my

second question, after "are you available this Friday afternoon in NYC?"

 

It's direct and to the point. There's little room for doubt in what I'm asking. Nonetheless,

nothing is foolproof. But it does help my conscious when I send them packing after they

show up and suddenly "can't" bottom. "Nice to have met you, goodbye"

 

Many versatile (and for that matter many voracious bottoms) list themselves as

"versatile/top" to reassure the bottom clients (who are in the magority) that

they CAN top. So, if you must blame someone, blame the picky bottom clients.

In my experience, most versatile/top guys are willing to bottom under the right circumstances. Clear communication is key and it is up to both parties - for example, I would ask: "I am a top - do you bottom?" In that case I usually get: "How hung are you?". Not an unfair question. If you are average in size - it is usually smooth sailing. If you are heavily hung, the guy may just not be able to accommodate...

At times I think there are as many definitions for the term Versatile Top as there are guy advertising. I generally take the term to mean he won't be fucked but he will suck. In the end who the hell really know? As other have stated the best way to find out is ask the escort directly and bluntly.

I think Vers top means (usually) he will top, but he is generally a bottom looking for more clients.

Ver = usually bottom, but can top.

 

Maybe I’m just cynical.

Wow! So many definitions. And here I though that dealing with guys in bed would be easier than the fairer sex! I have had this same question when I hire. I consider myself a true versatile and when someone says they are versatile I assume they truly are - if it's written as Top/Vers or Bottom/Vers, I thought they were indicating a preference for one, but a willingness to do either. Personally, wish there were more escorts open to both. It creates so many more options!!! Hehe.

I think versatile tops are guys who usually top and sometimes they bottom, while tops are one who only top.

 

Unless you have huge schlong, you'll be ok fucking one of them and they'll be ok getting fucked by you

I think the term has varying definitions for everyone. Sadly it makes your hiring more difficult.
