I'm honestly interested to hear from the gents who have ads up about how this shift hits them.

I'm always reluctant to talk numbers right away, and valued the option to reference "your terms as listed on RM" when arranging things, so I'll be curious to know what techniques/tactics gents prefer for respectful, clear & non-sketchy communication on this front.

They knew. The phrase willfully ignorant comes to mind.

Kevin Slater

It's like the people who call 5 seconds after you place an ad in a new city, asking if you're in town.

Like what do I look like, the Megabus? Greyhound? Flight 101 that just arrived in gate 12?

GOOD GRIEF!! Are you ever content with anything? Anything?

Can I ever say anything that YOU can be content with? You're the one with grief in your name. Atleast my name is reminiscent of something that tastes good.

Kurtis described some relevant info on things that can go down. I could have said the same thing, but predictably I'd get lamented for it. And then, to add jelly on top of the peanut butter...some of these treacherous peanut MFers want to exclaim how "that never happens to me". Well there you go, you just heard it from someone else other than me.

I'm content with guys contacting immediately...WHEN I'm in town. Alas, when it comes time to make those arrangements when I'm in town, suddenly their schedule is just soooooooooooooo....ooooooooo.ooooooooo busy. Well then, what's the point then? You have all the time in the world to find me 0.00000000000000001 seconds after I place my ad up, but not an hour to spare to make it happen.

Not saying everybody, just saying in General.

I've already had two folks flake out today after they realized they were hiring a provider and not looking at a hookup site... Overall I'm not pleased and the additional barriers & childish behavior from folks contacting me is probably going to influence my decision to cut back my escorting activities in general to existing clientele only. I'll be throwing my website back up again and see what happens activity wise.

If your ever in my area or I in yours I would love to hire you and I even promise not to flake:D:po_O

I do have to say tho this latest change will make it harder and require a lot more unnecessary emailing, calling and etc. to find "performers" that fit into my cost parameters. I am guessing it will only be a matter of time before RM becomes virtually useless.

It's a mess.

I won't talk $$ before starting. In the past RM made it so I didn't have to.

The $$ were clearly listed. The "ask me" men just got passed over.

Now, they are all effectively "ask me".

I assume most men are between $200-300 an hour, but I hate making

assumptions. If I hired a guy and his announced rate at the end of the session

was $500/hour (or more!), I would not be happy but blame myself for

not asking.

I think the new system leaves both sides much more vulnerable to entrapment.

I'm not sure how I'm going to resolve this...but I'm open to suggestions.

It's a real conundrum for people who want to guarantee specific acts and the exact rate. I'm very flexible about what happens in the first session. I think of it as a trial run. So I would be able to ask them what their rates are and set up the meeting without risk of entrapment. (Not that I think it's much of a risk to begin with.) If you want to be absolutely certain the provider is ready and willing to bottom and the rate is at or below what you're willing to pay, it's going to be difficult without taking that ever-so-small risk.

So here's what I do:

  • First email: Introduce myself, explain what I like to do, ask how that sounds to the escort
  • Reply to escort's reply email: Thank escort for reply and say something like "can we confirm your one-, two-, and three-hour rates"

The decision by rent.men, et al, will not change that process.

I think the only difference moving forward is having to answer the question of what your rate is. So now I just bring it up even if The prospective client doesn't. I can still say "what I'm into is referenced in my ad".

The rates haven't changed, only the viewers ability to see them have.

I did the same earlier today so we shall see what happens. More than likely it won't be allowed but enforcement will probably be spotty as usual.

I retweeed the following today from Tyler Wolf concerning the introduction of the "Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act" which is what probably influenced this change.

Looks like it worked. It's beyond my limited ability to comprehend the nuances and justifications, but perhaps they've determined that they can't be held liable for something you write versus supplying a specific data entry field?

It's all beyond ridiculous, but if this sticks, it's workable. You were smart to put the information right on top. It shows perfectly on both of my mobile devices.

This Act is infuriating for a couple of reasons, not the least of which is that it obfuscates the real victims of trafficking and is so broad as to be meaningless, except as a means of selective harassment - "the new law would mean "online platforms could be accused of participating in sex trafficking that occurs through ordinary, non-advertising use of their sites," such as when two people arrange to meet through Facebook messenger."

Huh?

But, by good fortune, this twitter link also lead me to something else Tyler wrote which is very timely and worth a read these days: https://thoughtcatalog.com/tyler-darlig-ulv/2017/05/what-being-a-professional-companion-really-is-because-it-isnt-sex-work/

I hope it's OK if I note a couple of elements of Tyler's submission:

"I’ve learned to create a genuine rapport with new people and how to develop a safe space that eliminates the potential for rejection, or ridicule, offering them the chance to feel accepted and secure..... I’ve learned a lot about the struggles that almost every single human deals with on a daily basis; issues with weight, feeling unattractive to others, fear of rejection, feelings of isolation, and the sense that there might never be someone to see you for what you really are. And that there might never be someone to tell you that what you are is ok."

So, I hold these two ideas up against each other - a new law versus an observation about what this work really can be - and the stark contrast amplifies the meaning of both.

I'm with everyone else here - I feel the change benefits no one, and will only lead to frustration on both ends. I've always done my best to confirm rates before meeting - if not after confirming an appointment - but having that information be readily available on the site was (in many cases) one more question I didn't have to answer.

The other thing that no one has pointed out, that has at least bugged me, is that Rent.men's home page title tag and site logo now say "gay pornstars", and that description of the site isn't 100% accurate, just plain confusing, and will probably be damaging to us as well.

I Feel the same way. These changes are terrible and I can imagine that it makes things harder for high end providers. Also, I really dont know how to feel about being labled a porn star
