I've never done this nor have I ever felt like it was a good idea but a potential client wants to give me a deposit for an overnight stay directly to my bank account due to the joint account they share with their partner, they cant take out money any other way?. How risky is this/ should I even risk it/ Im leaning towards its not worth it because it could definitely be a scam? I'm so sorry if this has already been asked I tried looking around but it seems most relevant posts were just talking about various online forms of accepting money from what I found (and then one post about someone who got their bank acct emptied bc they gave away their bank info :( )

I think it may have just been a scam unfortunately :( I did suggest venmo but they were insistent on only being able to make a direct deposit due to their situation. It sounds realistic enough so maybe its not a scam but im not super inclined to risk it

Is it common to get a request for an overnight from someone who's never hired you before?

Yes, it is common. It's how I first met @ajirons09 (and a number of others). We did an overnight in San Diego. We've had a long standing relationship since.:)

Some people like to test drive the working guys, but that's not always an option.

Bullshit. If they can transfer money from the bank account to you they can just as easily withdraw cash.

I agree.

Even more so, if the client's concern really is that the cash withdrawal would stand out, wouldn't it be even more obvious if the client's bank statement showed the transfer? On my statements, bank transfers show right up at the top in a deposits/withdrawals section, as part of the withdrawals for the statement period, whereas, ATM withdrawals and debit card transactions are among the line items. If the client were being honest about his concern, it make more sense for him to make several ATM withdrawals over a period of time.

Besides a direct transfer appears more conspiratorial if the client's partner finds out that the client cheated on him. It could look like you were actively involved in deceiving the partner,

He was attempting a scam.

Even under a joint account, any "transfer" is still a withdrawal from the account. If it needs two signatures, then a "transfer" would need two signatures.

The word transfer does not change it from the bank's perspective. The money is leaving one account and going into another. As far as the bank is concerned, it is CASH. I wouldn't recommend anyone give out their personal/banking information. There may be some situations where it is appropriate, like someone wiring money. And even then, only if the client/escort was known and extremely trustworthy.

Yes, I think you are correct.

Typically, bank accounts are set up under a "Joint Or" relationship, meaning any one account owner can execute a transaction against the account. So any owner could initiate an ACH (the technical term for an electronic transfer that is not a wire transfer) transfer. Banks will, on occasion as an exception, allow joint owners to set up a "Joint And" relationship. This means all account owners must approve the initiation of a transaction. This means withdrawals can be made by check or in person via a withdrawal slip, but not via ATM, online banking, or ACH. "Joint and" accounts would not have online banking or an ATM card because it is impossible for two people to sign into the same ATM or online banking session at once.

No, that statement is not correct. An electronic transfer is different than cash. Many banks apply the same funds availability policy to ACHs and cash, but many will make the ACH available on the business day following the day it is received. Wire transfers are required to be made available on the day they are received, but again they are not the same as cash nor are they treated as such.

...I wouldn't recommend anyone give out their personal/banking information. There may be some situations where it is appropriate, like someone wiring money. And even then, only if the client/escort was known and extremely trustworthy.

This is very sage advice.
