I just clicked on the ad of an escort and tried to contact him by private message on RM but I was only able to reach his cellphone.

RM allows on the privacy setting to enable/disable the RM messaging system allowing an escort to be reached ONLY by cellphone (text or call) and not having to log in and check RM to see if he got a message there or getting a text/email telling him he has a message waiting from him.

Much has been said about RM messaging system? I always wonder why they put themselves as an intermediary instead of doing like RB and simply allowing me to email another escort.

i may be wrong, but...

when an escort emails me, i receive a notification in my linked email account... and i think the text is usually there as well... which seems like a super convenient way to be able to keep in touch with activity on the site. isn't this the way all the sites.... current or forgotten.... operate(d)?

is this true or am i hallucinating?

no, you're right.

you can receive a notification by email or text according to choice telling you there's a RM message waiting for you in your account. I don't know about the full text (maybe there's a choice about that) but I get you have a message from RM member XXX.

What this and other escorts do is turn off the messaging system. When a client clicks on "contact" he'll see nothing but the escort's cellphone and it becomes his choice to text or call. The client can't send a PM as a member of RM or simply type an email (not as a member) but while using his own email.

What this and other escorts are trying to do is avoid member XXX sending a PM saying: "hi", instead of a text message saying "hi" from his phone. More direct, less time for bullshit/teasers even if it comes from a googlevoice.

Ahh... OK, that last paragraph clarifies the situation for me considerably - something i should have been more sensitive to in the everyday lives of the gentlemen in the profession.

Downside: my initial contact is never by telephone (just not how i roll) so losing the ability to send a message might be a dead-end deal breaker thing for me...

exactly, that's why it's on "Ask an escort" :)

@nynakedtop I'm sure usually the first reply says: "text me".

You have to remember this guys go through a lot of teasers and time wasters, specially by email, not so much by text.

I have always liked the message system, I usually use it for initial contact. I refer the escort to my client profile for my age, physical description, and my likes and preferences. It saves us both a lot of back and forth, and in the current climate avoids my having to make specific requests about compatibility.

I don't know about the full text

You can change your settings

My settings -> Privacy Settings

Send me a copy of each RentMen Email to my Email address: Send a full copy

(The default setting is send notification)

But if I understand Marylander correctly, that still leaves you the option to text him, which is not that much different from a PM except for lack of context.

I think it is a good idea for an escort to disable receipt of RM messages only if he knows he will be unable to respond to them in a timely fashion.

If one disables a means by which clients can contact you in order to avoid potential time-wasters then you're also avoid potential real clients. That said, everyone has their own level of tolerance for frustration and I understand if someone simply doesn't want to deal with it.

I hire allot and for the guys on RM I've never met it almost always starts with a RM email a week or more in advance.

I initiate communications via text if something sudden arises... a traveler I've never met who just pops up within a couple of days of his arrival, for example.

For me, it's worth having the RM messaging system available as an option for contact. I want to make sure anyone who wants to contact me can use whatever method they want, regardless of my personal preferences. However, I can say from experience that notifications about messages on there are inconsistent at best. I have the system set up to text me an alert and email me a copy of the message to my personal email. Most frequently, I get a notification about a message, often hours or sometimes days after the message was sent, and usually without the copy in my email. Sometimes, I'll check my email and see the copy of the message but I never received a text notification. Rarely (less than 5% of the time) do I get a timely notification AND a copy in my email. The RM messaging system is inconvenient for me and, in my experience, unreliable. It's a way to contact me that I am unwilling to give up, but it's certainly not a great way to reach me.

In short, I advise you to use whatever method you want to contact the escort, but don't make it mean something when you don't hear back after using the RM messaging system. I know it's been debated to death on here - I strongly advise text or phone calls.

If the rest of the people do what I do (), I would never use the Rentmen system when I expect a prompt response. I use it for first contacts, to explore whether or not we are a match, I use it to let guys from other cities know about my interest (see Timarrie's thread), in the hope other admirers are doing the same and we all will drag him to our territory.

When is time for making decisions I switch to text messaging. I have not used email or made a call in a very long time.

I do agree that it is wise a provider keeps open as many communication channels as they exist.

exactly or if he's on a trip and on his headline is clearly written "XXX now, calls only, no emails" and he's tired of guys emailing him in that city asking: "are you free now?".

I personally like to contact escorts beginning with email. It is easy to talk more and keep privacy. When both of us are interested in meeting, I will change to text, so we can keep a quicker connection.

koalas are known to be cautious creatures! :)

Most of times we don't get notifications from

RM about new emails so for that reaso it's highly recommended to contact us straight to our business phone, also if you are trying to contact an escort for a right now appointment and you do it through RM, you may experience a very delayed answer and miss the chance to meet the guy.

Text messages are the best way to reach an escort for faster response.
