I am currently doing a consulting gig in Austin Texas. Austin proclaims that it is unique in Texas for it openness and embracement of unique folks, ideas and styles.

 

I was excited about spending the summer here. However it seems being on the DL and even when stepping out the community is very clickish. I was going to the normal sites for an escort to enjoy the summer with, but that also seems more of a short list.

Austin is now the least Texas place in Texas. I remember years back when it was still genuinely 'weird,' but that's long since stopped and you're more likely to meet a California expat than anyone else.

Hey Tony, if you give us some idea of what you are looking for/your likes, it might help. The scene is not that large in Austin but both Dallas and Houston are only 3 hours away (and San Antonio a little more than an hour) so oftentimes these men can travel easily here or you to them.

Houston regularly has traveling guys in the city for a weekend. Not so sure about Austin. For example, @andrewjustice is visiting this weekend. Agree with @musclelover2, you may want to get a guy from Dallas to visit. I can certainly vouch for @Benjamin_Nicholas. Nice guy, good experience, based in Dallas but travels frequently and schedules in advance.

I've lived in more than a dozen cities. Austin is a very liberal city and is very unique in Texas, but it is more about the the music scene and the University than the gay scene. However, a couple weeks ago two of my friends decided to do a "pop-up" wedding at a popular park overlooking the river. Eight of us met the minister at the park, we went to an overlook and held the 15-minute ceremony among the regular park-goers. People stopped and watched, were supportive, and applauded at the end. Not a single heckle. You might be able to pull that off in the gayborhoods of Dallas or Houston, but I wouldn't advise it in any other place in Texas.

I don't think the community is any more or less clickish than any other city, but for those of us over 40 it is a challenge. Most socializing revolves around house parties of one type or another. Pool parties, barbecues, cocktail parties, etc. You tend to make friends through other friends, so making those first couple friends can be difficult. To be honest, not something that can easily be accomplished in one summer unless you are young and hot.

 

As far as the escort scene goes, you can't go wrong with Kurtis as long as your idea of fun does not require your partner to bottom. There are a few other cute guys in town, but I have not engaged them and cannot vouch for them. Keep your eyes open for travelers. Mike Gaite has been visiting semi-regularly and he is top notch. Definitely keep your eyes on San Antonio. There are some interesting guys there and it is a very short drive.

 

Good luck. Be sure to spend time at the river and parks before it gets too hot!

This is always a good tactic. It also depends on what you're looking for and budget. Good luck
