How do you dress for a massage?

I'm kind of new to this... and am wondering. If you're seeing a masseur you haven't seen before, do you typically strip down to nothing? I have on the couple of occasions that I've gotten massages from guys on masseurfinder... but I felt weird at first. Is underwear more appropriate? thanks!

Most masseurs will look at you strangely if you wear long johns. That being said, if they're uncomfortable with a naked man, they'll whip out a fluffy, white towel in a heart beat.

Like every human being you will encounter in your life - it's always a good thing to have a verbal connection and understanding with them before you take things for granted. A massage should not be a complicated experience. Unless you're looking for something else.

Most masseurs I've been with have asked me to take all my clothes off, as in naked. Then they cover my butt/groin area with a towel.

I felt weird at my first massage when I was instructed to disrobe completely. But upon doing so, I realized it made sense. I now do it whenever I get a massage because it's the most comfortable, and I don't want the massage oils to stain my underwear (it's impossible to get out of the elastic band). I can't think of a single real masseur who'd expect to massage someone who's wearing an article of clothing. That being said, when I go to a legit spa, I'll sometimes ask the masseur whether I should get naked. They usually say "of course," but if they want to make clear that there will be no chance of anything sexual happening, they'll just drape a towel over the groin/ buttocks.

I've never had a legitimate massage that didn't involve taking everything off and getting under a sheet that he skillfully uses to uncover just the parts he is working on.

 

I'm lucky that I have a room dedicated to massage with a table always set up. Even for erotic massages I coyly start under the sheet and let it come off as things progress. It has the added benefit of initially covering the area of my body I am most insecure about -- my flat, middle-aged, white man's ass!!

My first massage was at the Spa at Bellagio. The greeter assigned me a locker, told me to undress, and return wearing the robe and shower shoes provided and nothing else. I have assumed since then that I should be nude for all massages.

It depends. Are you getting a therapeutic massage or a sensual/erotic one? Even if you go full on nude the masseur would put a towel over your privates if he doesn't do that kind of massage. I prefer to go nude because I don't like wearing undies that got wet with the oil/lotion he used on me.

Dallasmuscle, you need to clarify a bit. Are you referring to Massage Envy or a gay massage site? You did mention that you had been to a few masseurs on Masseurfinder, so that gives a bit of direction. Did you go to the Heal or Relax section on MF? That site is "coded." For the Heal section I would suggest underwear....it is more therapeutic. The Relax section is coded that most probably a HE is in store, so naked is fine. Something I always ask is "do you do the massage in the nude? " Most will answer that question, and if they say yes, then you can be nude also. Though the best bit of advice I can give you is if the masseur's ad has sexual overtones, such as a no shirt, sexy vibe to the ad.....go naked, he won't be offended, he will love it! And don't fell weird, let it all hang out, and have a great massage : )

I'm kind of surprised there are different answers posted here. All massages, both legit or otherwise, are done with the client fully nude unless you are uncomfortable with that. It is expected and nothing to feel strange about. Also: In some states it's actually illegal for a licensed massage therapist to perform an undraped massage, so in NYC for instance if you are in a legit spa the therapist will cover your privates with a sheet or towel. Parts of your ass and upper groin may be temporarily uncovered as the therapist is working that area but will be covered again as he moves to a new area. For less legit or even just less formal massages not in a high end spa, therapists may leave you undraped. For most masseurfinder type massages your therapist will also be nude and what happens from there varies from nothing to everything. Hope this helps.

I started getting massages from men a little over 7 years ago, and it never occurred to me that I should wear anything once I get on the table. Even before then, when I got massages in hotel spas, I was always nude and covered by a towel or sheet.

 

As others have said, if you have any uncertainty about what is appropriate with a masseur, ask him. If you are too uncomfortable or shy to ask in person, ask in your correspondence before the massage. It's an innocent question, and no therapist should take offense if you ask him.

Great question from someone new to this -- and an easy answer. If you are open to an experience that is more sensual than just therapeutic massage work, lose the clothes altogether. Some masseurs will cover part of you, but I find that most don't. Then it will unfold as it should, as long as you're allowing yourself to enjoy and respond to his touch and where it may lead.

Even with 100% legit massages at say a spa I've undressed completely and then covered up with the sheet provided. In those situations they're usually really careful with draping and nothing will be exposed unnecessarily. In situations either where they forego draping or ones that have clear sensual elements I've also undressed completely. I've found with pretty much all the guys I've seen on masseurfinder they're pretty clear about boundaries if it's going to be 100% legit (of course I've realized that I can be laying on the table completely naked and uncovered and I'm likely not going to get excited unless the masseur wants me to).

It may depend on the location. Resort spa vs private studio. A legitimate massage therapist will not want to jeopardize their license or their job.

 

And it may be due a state licensing issue. But states have various rules.

 

Even in the formal massage training school environment there’s been no issue about the client being nude - at least those I’ve been to. However, they always “drape and uncover” as they work various areas. In the derrière region they are trained to undrape one side while making sure the other side is carefully draped and tucked. But it can still be a very nice massage - if that’s your primary interest.
