There’s seems to be a significant uptick in the number of postings taking place in The Spa section in recent months.

When I first joined the forums years ago it was quite common there would be not a single new post for several days. Recently it seems to have become increasingly active.

Overall the forums all seem to be more active in the “Escorting” sections. But the increase seems particularly noticeable in “The Spa”.

Reasons there’s a shift in interest taking place by the forum community from escort to masseur?

My guess is two words ..."more masseurs." Back 5 or 10 years ago there were not as many masseurs to choose from. I think the main reason was that there was a stigma associated with being a masseur.....which as we all know in this forum 99% of masseurs provide HE and other services. So 5 or 10 years ago most guys would not do massage....embarrassing if their friends found out, etc. I say this because back in the day it was RARE to have a masseur in their ad show their face. MANY headless wonders! Just body shots....no face. Well, in today's world the stigma is GONE. Yes, there are still a few headless wonders.....but most everyone shows their face. The stigma doing erotic massage, etc. is gone.....which brings us to the fact there are now TONS of guys doing massage. As a result, tons of guys doing massage in the present day ( as opposed to the low number back 10 years ago).. equals much more activity in this forum which equals more posts.

One never knows, but my guess would be that there isn't really a shift in interest. My observation has been that most guys seem to be in one camp or the other. Some guys really like massages and enjoy the dance you play with erotic massage. Pushing boundaries, etc. Others, especially those looking for a BFE, have no interest in it at all.

I agree that there seem to be more masseurs, but I think some of the uptick may be due to the massage sites forcing their advertisers to be so damned vague. You have to do so much reading between the lines that there may just be a greater need to ask the community.

I'm more in the escort camp, but I have had erotic massages by two different guys that were a lot of fun. (Still are.) However, in addition to their massage ad they both had Backpage ads where they were able to be very specific. So I knew just what I was getting.

I don't have enough history on this forum to comment on the main topic, but I do want to chime in about the topic generally, "masseurs" may or may not be massage therapists. It's a French word and literally means male erotic massage worker. They're generally regarded as sex workers like escorts and are not legal anywhere in the USA. "Masseuse" is a female erotic massage worker.

If a massage therapist, a professional with a state license decides to risk their career by offering erotic services on the side, that's their choice. But, please remember, they are risking their professional career by doing so and all clients should respect their likely desire for discretion, especially if they work in a professional spa or other therapeutic setting.

As the price points are up across the board, I think the lines are now more blurred between massage-full-service at the higher priced end of the massage spectrum. While the "real" massage experience is my priority, when particular escort eye candy calls, my wallet says no no no. So it's always a thrilling bonus to get certain extras and on occasion full-service with a hot trained masseur.

That may be what those terms mean today, but back before the gender-neutral term "massage therapist" gained ground, "masseuse" and "masseur" were terms meaning female and male providers of massage, respectively. See, e.g., the following definitions from the current New Oxqford American Dictionary:

mas·seur n. a person, esp. a man, who provides massages professionally. <ORIGIN> French, from masser 'to massage'.

mas·seuse n. a female masseur. <ORIGIN> French.

It goes even further back than the introduction of gender neutrality, but it's a very slow process because the words in French don't have the sexual connotation. It was only added when they came into English. Masseur and Masseuse are French and gendered words for a person who does massage, but in English they have long had the added connotation of sexual activity. As with all things in language, it's a slow process of education and vocabulary adoption.
