You can't expect escorts to like opera if they are not into it! That escort should have plainly refused to go to the opera! I think due to the financial thing the escort accepted opera offer but could not take it anymore after a while ! He can't suddenly find it interesting if he was never exposed to opera from childhood!i don't blame him completely!

Wait a second. We are talking about an escort paid to spend an evening (and I guess the night after that evening) with a client.

Ok, opera is not for everybody but it's not like dogs' fight where after a while you can't take it anymore. Just sit there, put yr phone away and pretend to watch and listen for 2 hours, even if you dislike it.

Of course I DO blame him completely!

I'm not NYC-based (but will be visiting there again later this month) but hope it's not too off-topic/self-promotional to post word of my long-time LA Phil (front row, Orchestra West) and Hollywood Bowl jazz series (in a box seat, natch) subscriptions for those gentlemen looking for a Left Coast companion. Was at Disney Hall last night for Haydn's "Creation."

Have thoroughly enjoyed seeing various productions/concerts over the years on my travels . . . Don Giovanni at La Scala . . . Cosi Fan Tutte at Sydney Opera House . . . Mahler 1 at the Musikverein (one of my goals is a "Neujahrskonzert" here). Enjoyed hearing an LA Opera cellist friend of mine perform in the LAO production of La Boheme earlier this year.

BigRic- I wish I lived in LA. I would love to go to the opera with you on my arm!

I once hired a baritone whom I had seen onstage at the Met. He was pretty kinky (he had a barber's chair in his bedroom).

Wow. Did he sing to you too? (You have me wondering who it could be???? Time for me to fantasize!)

More than mildly off-topic:

I've known my lesbian step-sister for about 46 years. She lives in San Francisco. I had no idea she had a love of opera!

On Saturday, 1/12/2019, we were together in Rosemont, IL (as our sister had just died of a cerebral aneurysm--that's why we were in town at the same time). The Met in HD, or whatever their movie theater productions are called, was presenting Adriana Lecourveur. What a delightfully random opera!

We were two of about 20 in the theatre, with a delightfully large screen and killer audio.

I personally was in about seven concert performances of Le Damnation de Faust of Berlioz, including a recording from the early 1970's. I think we performed it in Carnegie Hall -- we performed SOMETHING there, and that was a likely culprit.

When I said "I once hired," I was referring to a hire almost four decades ago. I think he is probably long retired from both of his careers. And, no, he didn't sing to me, though I thought of requesting something from Barbiere di Siviglia.

Thanks for the reply! ?

Since I have had a few private inquiries about this opera singer escort, I should point out that this experience took place back in the pre-Internet age when escorts/"models" advertised in gay print publications, with no photos nor the kind of info that would lead them to being publicly exposed in the way they would if they tried to advertise today. The singer, a very attractive young man in his late 20s, had just debuted at the Met in a secondary role, and still needed to escort to make ends meet. His escort ads soon disappeared, and he had a reasonably successful career as a singer for several years (I saw him perform several times), but he eventually succumbed to AIDS.

Who remembers Gavin, the amazing huge black bodybuilder from Chicago who used to come to NY pretty often (and whom I hired 3 amazing times..) ?

When the first time I told him my connection with opera he told me he loved opera and that he had had some voice training, and while he was showering after sex he sang for me some phrases of "Non più andrai" from Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro".

He had a pretty nice baritone voice!

The image of this big hot man under the shower washing his huge penis and singing Mozart will remain with me for a while :)...

I remember him very well! He was an escort, then a masseur then he retired. I didn't know he sang though. That must have been an amazing scene!
