New York bookshops

I'm in NYC until mid September, house sitting a friends apartment in Hell's Kitchen. One of the things I love doing is browsing bookshops. Unfortunately they seem to be thin on the ground here. Can anyone recommend a bookshop with a good gay section?

Good luck. Gay book store are just as thin on the ground in the U.S. as Australia.

Yes, it's a shame. The internet again I suppose. Sydney and Melbourne each have at least one I'm aware of, although I doubt they're doing well and have to rely on Internet sales.

My last visit to Sydney was 1998, Melbourne 1995. I was impressed by the gay run stores in Sydney, but it was a long time ago. I was in Sydney shortly after porn star Joey Stefano died; I was impressed by the amount of the attention the gay press in Australia paid to his death.

 

In his prime, Joey would show up in clubs on both coasts here, so many people met him.
