Backpage experiences?

Being the least tech/net savvy millennial, I've only just come across the site and was wondering if anybody had any experiences with advertising or meeting on there. At first glance it seems a less restrictive Craigslist clone but I've never advertised on there so I don't know what to expect from site like this.

There actually has been good reports about backpage, but you mainly just notice threads about the bad.

 

2 things going into it if you do: there are copycat sites that without your knowledge lift info from backpabe onto their site. Because of that I would not recommend showing face pics. Thats not an issue on rentmen.

 

I used to have good results from there and used it often because it attracted the Latin/Hispanic clients and the straight, never sucked a dick before straight guy that wanted to try. Some became regulars from it.

 

However...it turnt sketch because I started noticing lots of extremely gorgeous, muscular tatted up "ethnic" men in just about every city in the country. All offering a list of checked services they'd be open to, and all doing it for $100. It's almost as if an agency monopolized backpage and were posting these ads all over the country.

 

My theory is, most of those ads were sketch. Clients were getting less than they bargained for, and now it sucks and it's rare to get anything serious from it.

there are two fine looking men posting frequently on backpage in my town. One says he can be found on some webcam site under the name Colton Steele, but a search links name to an African American porn star, and this guy is white. The second is a massage guy named Trent, but googling his name also brings up a female escort. I keep thinking these might be law enforcement, but I have no basis for that.

I'm one of the defenders. You need to use a lot of care and thought, do your due diligence. Don't let the "little head" make the Backpage decision. It is sketchy, but part of the appeal is finding the one that's good in the weeds there.

I only track Las Vegas. I know each market is different and certain markets likely favor BP or CL over the other. The following stats provided are not perfect - but the general trend likely is.

**I typically pull my stats about mid day on Wednesday and use the number of postings from the day prior. In general BP has mid-20 to low 30 listings. CL M>M around 120. CL Casual around 620. Numbers can vary greatly and typically drop the later in the day I pull my stats. I know these numbers, by themselves, are somewhat bogus. That’s because the same person often reposts their ad several times during the day to keep themselves near the top. But I believe this is a standard practice that happens every day. So the general trend is likely valid. BP has, by far, the fewest postings. That may actually be an advantage because you wouldn’t have to constantly refresh your ad to keep it visible. For CL I would think advertising in the M Seeking M category would be better than Casual Encounters because of the reduced ad turnover during the day.

Ok - at the risk of getting involved in an oft contentious issue - I think CL is mostly targeted to free play, while BP is an alternate (and generally) more risky place for pay to play. BP tends (not always, but generally) to have less professional guys than RM or M4RN. I have used all the above (and a few others) successfully, but agree BP has more 'risk' mainly due to the professionalism of the guys who use it. And yes, in a lot of markets, guys use all/many of the above.

To be a broken record:

 

BP is risky. If you don't want to court risk, don't use it. OTOH I have run into far more fake picture guys on Rentboy than on BP, so nothing is guaranteed.

 

When I see somebody I like on BP, I do the Google image search, I call him and talk for 2 or 3 minutes to see if he seems sane (and to let him do the same sniff check of me), then I go see him.

 

You only need to be about 3% of Oppenheimer or Von Braun to use BP with some success. What I like especially is that you can frequently find fresh unjaded guys just starting out who are open to personal encounter in ways that are not always common among established professional working guys.

I don't like CL for paid encounters. Nothing in my area but desperate straight boys who need help paying their bills for the month. Last one I met wanted money up front, played for about 15 minutes, went out for a cigarette (yuck), jumped in his car and left.

 

Another guy was going to do an overnight with me at a hotel. We played for about 20 minutes then he suddenly remembered it was his weekend with his son and he had to leave, so that's what he did (I only paid him fifty bucks, though).

 

A couple other experiences from CL were just young straight guys who didn't get into much sexually, so it was just a waste.

 

So it took me a few unsuccessful tries, but I'm done with CL for escorts. I'll stick to Rentmen where the professionals are. (never tried BP)

It all depends on what is your tolerance for taking risks. Risks of being burned, risks of wasting your time, risks of finding more clients who are looking for a cheap thrill, risks of law enforcement.

 

If you are ok with encountering all these and if you have a lot of time to spare, definitely try BP.

 

If you have time, try to read more in this forum. You will find interesting patterns about different posters here, both escorts and clients, and you can judge their recommendations based on these patterns. Some of our posters constantly post about terrible things that have happened to them because of lack of judgment and searching for cheap thrills or easy business. There tends to be an interesting direct correlation between where most of these people search for interactions and the quality of results.

 

There are, of course, the exceptions to the rule. Some people have encountered very satisfactory interactions in unlikely venues, some people have had terrible interactions found through the most respectable venues.

 

I hope you will find the perfect balance between fruitful interactions and the risks you are willing to take.

If I were living in a large'ish city in the states I'd probably be giving some BP guys a try. It would be worth the $100-$200 to find the occasional "true find". But since I'm only hiring when I'm traveling I don't have the time to waste arranging for a meet up, waiting for it to happen, hoping it's good, etc., etc.

I agree 100% with everything Mocha said. About a year ago, Backpage LA, Orange County, and San Diego became overrun with what appeared to be the same guys posting two, three, five, and six times each day. It continues to this day and is crazy. You might end up getting lost among the sketchy ads.

I've had 2 experiences with backpage ads. One I semi followed through with - not as advertised at all and it was really uncomfortable. The other I didn't follow through with (prison tattoos on the face are not really a great selling point). Had a rather creepy and uncomfortable episode with the second guy well after the fact. Mostly thugs and drugs advertising in my city.
