I have a very sad news to share with you today: Matthew Schaefer aka Jett [silver Fashion] that we had the pleasure to feature on OhLaLa has passed away from complications due to Cancer. This summer our friend Clara who was fighting cancer for years also passed away in Paris. So today it was like another tidal wave that came to hit us.

Since day one we do our best to remain positive on OhLaLa and help people, models, actors, the best way we can, and the feedback is beyond our wildest dreams. Every person that we feature on the site is like child to us. We are just so proud to see them reaching their goals and just be happy in life, and we are sad when they are taken away from us too early.

Jett went through two consecutive bull-dozer chemo treatments that would have killed the average person. The chemo treatments were 2 weeks each with only a week off in between. Jett was extremely proud that he had beaten cancer a second time, which is exactly what he did. The two chemo sessions wiped out the cancer but left him with zero immune system defenses.

“I want to know that when I am gone, people will have learned and taken something from me to make their lives better. I want to help as many people as I can while maximizing the most I can get from life” This is how ends Jett’s interview in the current issue of Maximum Fitness magazine.

Jett did make a difference in our life and in lives of many people around him, and we hope that all our readers will take a moment today to reflect on how fragile life is, and how important is to be nice to people around you as tomorrow they might not be there anymore.

Matthew "Jett" Schaefer, age 36, of Sewickley and West Hollywood, passed away peacefully at UPMC Shadyside surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 7, 2009.

He was born in Pittsburgh on March 27, 1972, to Lawrence P. (retired Captain for U.S. Airways) and Sharron (Sachs) Schaefer (Associate Director of Music Ministries, St. James Church) of Bell Acres.

Matthew attended Quaker Valley High School and was a graduate of CCBC in aviation. He worked for Beaver Aviation, later becoming a Charter Pilot in California, flying medical evacuations mostly from Mexico. A man of many talents, he also worked for LA Models, Endeavor, was on many covers for Fitness Magazines. He was an actor working in commercials for Dr. Pepper, McDonald's and Ross Department Store, where he also modeled. He was in various movies, his best being "English Is My Second Language."

He was a member of St. James Church, Screen Actors Guild, AFTRA and AOPA.

He will be remembered by his family as a good son, very loving brother, devoted uncle, godfather, grandson and soul mate. When he entered a room, you could feel energy, he would engage all in conversation, knowing all before he left that area, making them all feel special. He was the life of the class, pushing his parents to the limit and giving a wonderful zest for life. "Jett" was fast cars, loud music, the most accidents on Camp Meeting Rd., all on the edge always enjoying life.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandmother, Alice Sachs of Allison Park; his sister and brother-in-law, Keely Dawn Schaefer and William McCullough; his adored niece and goddaughter, Sara A. McCullough; his loving and supportive girlfriend, Ashley Marie Morgan of Salem, UT; many aunts, uncles, cousins and last but not least, his beloved dog, "Captain".

Started studying mathematics for about two semesters and realized there must be more to life than finishing your degree, jumping into your job and staying there until your pension.

So I figured I want to take some time off and see if I'm right. My plan was to head to Australia for a year to do my working holiday visa but ended up staying for 2 years in that breathtakingly beautiful country. After my travels I thought maybe it's time to head back and finish my degree. I changed my subject from mathematics to nutrition and moved a couple of hundreds of kilometers away from my home town to focus on my studies and get it done with as quickly as possible so I can get back to travelling and work in this area during my journey. But things came differently. Seeing my family and friends after 2 years was amazing don't get me wrong but there were a couple of things that that striked me. In those 2 years nothing has changed with them. It seemed like they were stuck in time. I could see they got older of course but they did the same thing almost everyday I was gone. Ah yeah, there was one thing that changed of course. They had new cars, watches, phones, apartments, houses. So that's what they have been up to all the time, working to buy more things that would make them happy for a little while and then work even more to get new things as the older things don't satisfy them anymore or to pay the more expensive ones off. That's when it hit me. I need to leave! I don't want to be part of this. I need to keep travelling.

I sold everything I owned, tried to explain to my loved ones why I'm leaving (some of them got it, some just seemed not to be willing to understand ).

I contacted a dear friend of mine whom I met in Australia and who felt exactly the same way as I felt and we decided to travel through south-east Asia first and figure out what to do next.

 

Sounds like a bit of a loser... but a very handsome loser. Sometimes good looks can get you quite far in life.
