Hi all. I'm new here, but I wanted to comment on the doctor comparisons, looking at hourly rates. I once freelanced (in a different industry) where I mostly worked with individual clients for 1 hour sessions. When I started out, I had some advice on what to charge, and I thought the advised rates seemed expensive -- was I really worth that much, compared with the equivalent (2.5x lower) hourly rate of a salaried worker?

 

What I quickly discovered was that those rates cover not only the hour I'm with the client, but also any planning or prepping time, travel time, time and energy spent on communication and scheduling logistics (which can be substantial), as well as a portion of my professional overhead -- the time I spent maintaining and updating my own skills & equipment. For salaried occupations, like doctors, all the hours spent on those things are part of their workday and are covered by their salary. For hourly occupations, they aren't, so you have to take that time into account when you see an hourly rate that looks pricier than expected.

 

So if someone asked about a lower price, and then said "OK, I totally understand" when I said no -- that was cool. Those were fine clients. The ones who tried to negotiate again after I said no -- they rarely worked out, because neither one of us felt like we were getting quite what we deserved.

Sorry Mikey, I don't put ANYONE on the pedestal you've obviously created for your escorts. Its not about understand or Not understanding and you are incorrect. I DO value escorts as people, and that's where it ends. They aren't Gods or above being asked to negotiate a price for the service they are offering. Print and runway models are also valued for their BEAUTY and ability to sell a product. But they are treated as commodities as well. Thats just the nature of the business.

This is NOT a love connection. The escort will never become my boyfriend (or at least that's highly doubtful). I understand that its probably correct to have the attitude you do towards this issue considering the nature of this site, but sorry, I cant buy into that.

 

I will say that JJK makes some interesting analogies here. Granted, I have done the whole pedestal thing with the escorts, yes guilty as charged, so I certainly understand that aspect of the argument, but much of this depends on ones life's experiences. We all come to the table with a different perspective on escorting. Some are new to hiring, and much of this is virgin territory for them, so they look at escorts very differently than someone like myself that has been hiring for the better part of (ahem) 40 years. Yes I started at 17, so for myself, at this stage of my life, "been there done that", and as such, I'm a little jaded. So when JJK makes his point in the post above, I tend to agree. Others are certainly free to hire or deal with escorts anyway they choose. I just don't see this as all or nothing. No one here is right or wrong, we just see things differently.

 

To be clear, I don't negotiate, but that's just me, those reasons are personal, so if someone feels that they want to negotiate, or need to, or whatever, why should I care. Hire whomever you want, however you want.

And for the record, in thinking back today, I negotiate almost everything in my life, not everything mind you, but a whole damn lot of it, and if someone thinks less of me for doing it, so be it.

YUP, well said. And I am not here to win an argument or convince anyone to change their behavior. Thats an exercise in futility. What triggered my buttons was that people here were calling negotiation "unattractive" and the people that do it Rude and cheap. Like Annie, I too say behave the way you want, and let others do the say. Fuck this labeling shit. Yeah I know, there will always be Labels for everything and that's just sad.

People always want you to do as they do, and will talk smack when you don't. My point is my point, and it works for me. If you are happy with your behavior, God speed....

I've never had an escort decline a follow up appointment, ignore me or put me on block. I've only had one who tried to treat me as an ATM (if that's what you are getting at) but that wasn't happening.

 

It's actually a bit of a moot point (as much as I have enjoyed arguing about it) because I have a regular situation that is working out really well. I'm not meeting many new guys these days.

That sort of behavior makes perfect sense on the escorts parts. It's akin to telemarketers, whose job it is to drum up business. And you are already a proven client, so why not ? Personally, I wouldn't interpret those calls or texts any other way if I were to receive them.

I actually wasn't interpreting them any way at all. (Except for the part about never being dodged or blocked. I like to do repeats, and I've known several escorts well enough to know what their MO is when they don't want to see a client again.) I was asked a question, not knowing if something was being implied, and I answered it. (You aren't the only one who likes to get the last word sometimes. )

They are tons of other escorts whom are just as hot as the expensive guy he wants to hire... whom has a lower price.There is a filter in rentmen where you can select a miminum and maximum price you can afford.

For some people it is simply a challenge... almost a game... Those are the people who never pay full retail for anything... and usually try to pay virtually nothing over wholesale... It's also called trying to get blood from a stone! If a guy has a lower price you can rest assured that they will even try to under cut that!

 

Oh, and if they can get it for less than wholesale... Even better!

Oh I totally forgot about that, Im from NYC so the amount of escorts here are like 400-500+ so theirs something out here for everyone.

So that why I always see escorts traveling on here always seems like they get more business in other places as they are seen as new faces.

I have often said that when you haggle on such a personal event, you're asking to be disappointed.

 

Similarly, when I contact an escort and ask what the rate for his time is.. and he responds with "What do you want to do?" it's a red flag to me and I end the inquiry. I wish everyone would reply with "$XXX per hour".
