I finally found it in English, the Spanish version says he was an escort (prostituto de 23 años) but the Italian doesn't and ads the victim had a Roman (Italian) girlfriend.

 

Manuel Foffo and Marco Prato were arrested after the naked body of Luca Varani was found in the bedroom of an apartment owned by Foffo in Collatino, in Rome’s outskirts, on Saturday night.

 

Varani was allegedly tortured, stabbed and beaten with a hammer by the two university students during a two-day party that was fuelled by alcohol and cocaine.

 

“We wanted to kill someone only to see what affect it would have on us,” 30-year-old Foffo told prosecutor Francesco Scavo, Ansa reported, citing sources.

 

“We went out in the car the night before, hoping to meet someone. Then we thought of Varani, who my friend (Marco Prato) knew.”

 

Foffo, a law student, confessed the murder to his father, who reported the crime to police.

 

Prato, meanwhile, sought refuge in a hotel near Piazza Bologna, where he attempted to kill himself with barbiturates, La Stampa reported. The 29-year-old is now in hospital under police guard.

somewhat related to this topic is the famous story of Leopold and Loeb, two wealthy, young gay lovers in Chicago who decided to kill somebody to see if they could get away with it.....google it for lots of stuff.....the movie "Swoon" dramatizes it in a somewhat-artsy way, but isn't a bad watch.....

I too thought of Leopold and Loeb, but the movie version I'm most familiar with, which doesn't use their real names and doesn't get into their sexuality, is Compulsion.

The Italian version is quite explicit and delves into the psychology of why this was attempted where the attacker becomes God himself and thus erases any limits placed on what can be attempted. One of the psychoanalysts is quoted as follows, "We are defined by the limits we have. If we we remove them, we no longer have identity, we become destroyers of others, as we have destroyed ourselves."

 

What is more disturbing is the following regarding sex and psychotropic drugs which fuel a perversion that involves not sleeping and not eating for hours and days where one just has sex. Supposedly this "chemsex", is the craze in Britain and is spreading like wildfire across Europe in the gay community.

 

Just reporting in a nutshell what I read. Incidentally the Italian term of colpi di martello, the description of being beaten with a hammer had a more forceful effect on me than reading it in English.
