I'm sure I won't be the only one to chime in here, but the Du Pont Circle area is an obvious starting point. I stayed at the eponymous hotel, but I'm not sure how its rates compare to others (I booked through Qantas and the rate was in Australian dollars). I asked the question before the Jan Forum Lunch in DC (my question was on page 2, this is the link to page 3 with some of the answers).

Well, last time I was there, I stayed at Sheraton Pentagon City. Hotels in Alexandria are probably less expensive that in the District (Except Old Town---pay through the nose). Arlington hotels....you will pay a little less if you go a little further out. Hotels in Roslyn can be a touch pricey.

Pick a hotel in proximity to a Metro station. If it is in NoVA where you stay, see what is near Blue Line. Yellow Line can possibly be near some not ungodly lodgings.

Try the Kimpton Rouge - very convenient to DuPont Cr & great rates. If not a member of their frequent stayer program already, sign up for Karma Rewards before you arrive.

Most clients will stay near Capitol Hill or Embassy Rd, but I find DuPont Cr is easy distance for most areas. I'd would recommend you avoid staying in suburbs if your aim is to make it a client-development trip plus fun for you.

If distance is no issue, My favorite place to stay in is the Ritz in Georgetown. Don't assume it is pricey, plus as a client I prefer rooms with thick brick walls and massive number of rooms and hallways. The river wing is superbly discreet. It is a turn of the century industrial building. Their rooms are enormous, views of the Potomac, super close to great eateries. If you are a Marriot member, the hotel runs specials that make it super affordable. Clients will be impressed and probably pay premium. P,us, if you've never walked around Georgetown U, it is a treat! Lots of well-heeled academics in the area. Plus the eye candy...woof! By the way, my favorite Italian restaurant is around the corner from it in DC - Filomena. Yummy!

Enjoy!

I agree with Kuriousity, Pentagon City and Crystal City are also options, depends on whether you are going for a vacation-style visit or a working trip. I like Alexandria and moved there after the forum lunch, about $150 (tax included) at the Hilton Garden Inn, 200m from King St Metro. If you are driving there, being near the metro isn't all that important but if you are without a car it can be. (Parking was $32 at the Garden Inn - valet only.) (As to TR's comment I think Kimpton is part of IHG's loyalty program if that is important to you.)

You'll probably have ease of business if you stay near DuPont. Everyone knows how to get there. :) Anyway, there are countless hotels to choose from. Just don't come down near a holiday or special event. But yes any area near a metro is good as Kuriousity and Mike stated.

There are a number of Kimpton related hotels...

The ones I've stayed at are the Palomar, the Rouge, Madera, and the Donovan. The Donovon has a card key for the elevator. So that might not be practical.

Non-Kimpton...

The Churchill - last time I was there I got a relatively huge room for under 100 a night.

Marriott Wardman Park - one of Tristan Baldwin's faves I believe :)

Omni Shorem - large rooms decently priced, usually.

Also check out the Chevy Chase and Bethesda area for hotels.

I can go on, but if you have a place in mind pm me and I can tell you what I know, if I know.

Hopefully we'll be in the area at the same time and we can finally meet. :D

not an expert here, but have been in DC a few times.....proximity to a Metro station is very, very helpful.....if you'll be hosting clients, Keith, I presume they'll know their way around and can deal with getting to you....don't assume your clients will be coming only from the Dupont area (the traditional "gay" part of DC), so don't feel obligated to book there, though it IS incredibly convenient to the entire region.....I'd say anything in the "NW" district of DC near a Metro station would work.....but don't be afraid to stay over in the immediate Virginia suburbs (near a Metro, of course).....many clients will live over there and it is just a close-in, very accessible suburb - and less expensive than the District

Oh, Dupont is not really gay anymore. The gays moved to Adams Morgana & NoVA. If this is a client development trip, you may find most of the potential clients come from the Falls Church/Vienna/Alexandria areas.

Adams Morgan is literally next to DuPont... that's not much of a move. Lol! And I beg to differ, it's still pretty gay. :)

Well, Mike, I was thinking Metro proximity for client use. I was stationed in DC 8 years.

Well, yes, I'm something of am imposter, I have only visited there [but over 25 years], and not as someone who was looking to hire at the time! So I have no idea where clients would be comfortable going!

If the goal is business development, then I suspect the Virginia suburbs would be a better area to cultivate. Within the District itself--based on what my Scruff shows me--there's a whole lot of guys fucking each other for free. The repressed cockhounds are most likely out in the burbs and are willing to cough up rates....

Keep in mind, I PCS'ed from DC in 2008. At that point, I saw more marrieds with strollers than 'mos.....so maybe a few 'mos held on, but gentrification did force more than a few to move to cheaper digs.

I agree. The place has been expensive for a long time and gentrification made it worse. It has always had a huge family base which has grown as costs have gone up, but its still a gay center.

I've been numerous times and stayed in various locales. DuPont circle area for the convenience of the outcalls in DC proper if you're willing to do them. The increased revenue offsets the cost savings of staying in Arlington.

Thanks Mike, Keith posted this in the 'Ask an Escort' section and all of us non-escorts chimed in. You brought the discussion back to what he really wanted to know.

Downtown DC. Dupont Circle would be my first choice. Hotel should be 3 to 4 blocks from metro at most. Many horny locals will want you during the day and after work before they go home. They need to be able to get to you quickly as they fit their playtime into lunch hour or their evening commute. Other businessmen in town will want you at night but want to go to an area close and safe or want you at their hotel room door ASAP.

Your best option is to stay in DC rather than the suburbs of Arlington, Alexandria, or Bethesda. And for heavens sake, don't book near Dulles airport.

I recommend just about any Kimpton hotel in DC. They dump a lot of inventory on the Internet hotel booking sites. There's usually a very good deal somewhere. The Hotel Rouge and the Donnovan get a lot of escort traffic based on my hiring experience. I suggest the Rouge as its centrally located on 16th street, NW. The aforementioned DuPont Circle Hotel is also a good choice.

Rates in DC tend to ebb and flow depending on when Congress is in session. It's "appropriations season" beginning now through early April. That's when everybody who wants some taxpayer money comes to town lobbying their representative for a special interest funding in the federal budget.

Late March and early April is Cherry Blossom Festival and literally tens of thousands of tourists clog the Metro and streets around the Tidal Basin to look at some stupid-fucking-trees and annoy the hell out of the locals.

I've stayed at two different Kimpton hotels in the Dupont Circle area, the Rouge and the Palamor. I'd give the Palamor a slight edge over the Rouge because of its proximity to a metro stop, but I enjoyed both hotels. It's also my impression (based solely on visual observation) that Dupont Circle is the place to be if you're hip and attractive.
