A local escort told me many of his clients are reluctant to write reviews, even if they're not explicit. At the same time many former regulars he hadn't seen in a long time, surprisingly came back to him because he is a "safe choice". I heard a fellow escort took his ads down, but unless someone was relying solely or mostly on rentboy for clients, I just can't see it being a reason for retiring. I think it's a cumulation of other things as well.

 

Thinking about a post awhile ago from Mikey...I think he made a point about escorting being a its all time low. I couldn't see myself doing escorting "part-time". There's just too much involved to be half in it to win it. If I found another job of comparable or better pay, I'd probably stop advertising too and maybe just see a select few regulars.

This is where relying so heavily on repeats has a distinct drawback: As these long term clients go away for whatever reasons, it is harder and harder to meet new people. The raid has completely undermined my business. I can draw a very distinct line between the day before and the day after. Time to begin the process of doing something else. I surpassed all my goals some time ago, so I suppose the universe is trying to give me a nudge toward something new.

However, I think rentboy may have only been the icing on the cake. But the point you made about finding new people is so true. I haven't lost any regular-regulars since rentboy shutdown, but they all talk about it...and I would imagine anyone overly skittish to legal issues would probably be hesitant to make that first call.

 

But, at the same time...I'm finding it hard to meet new people outside of escorting too. I just don't think rentboy is the sole reason. Other reasons are all these smartphone apps for hooking up. I used to get lots of 40s something clients. Now, it looks like they're all on the apps. BBRT, Scruff, if I name any more the forum might disappear. Then, some cities are experiencing rising COL, like Denver...and most the would be and former clients have gone into super frugal, it-should-be-free-because-even-though-I'm-40-years-older, it should just be fun mode. It's pretty fucking sad when no one can afford your services because the pay doesn't equal up to the COL, and they're all stoned off their fucking ass half the time.

I know a few who did, but many of them surprisingly got calls from guys they didn't see in a long time. All of the sudden some former regulars came back to them.
