Thanks for posting this, Marylander. I am not sure he was my first movie crush, but he was certainly someone who I would have loved to meet. I have several "friends" who were often invited to his place for "parties" around the pool in the afternoons, and they often stayed with him overnight. I think he was much more open about his sexual preferences to those who were close to him, and he certainly had a stable of young men who enjoyed his hospitality. Unfortunately when he was a star, the public was not very forgiving of sexual preferences that strayed from the "public norm" but the insiders always knew and many, including Doris, protected him as much as possible. He certainly was a star in his day, and it was most unfortunate that he contracted AIDS. However, that fact help propel the movement to deal with this terrible disease.
