Cary Grant and Randolph Scott

Randolph Scott and Cary Grant met on the set of Hot Saturday in 1932. They soon began rooming together in a beach house in Malibu. According to author Robert Nott, "They lived together on and off for about ten years because they were friends and wanted to save on living expenses." (Both were considered tightwads). They remained close friends throughout their lives. (Grant died in 1986 at age 82; Scott in 1987 at 89.) Their one-time living arrangement and long friendship led to rumors that the two were a couple. Some who knew the men have refuted this. Grant is on record as having said that he had "nothing against gays; I'm just not one myself." Some of the photos that show Scott and Grant together were posed by a studio art director for publicity stills. Maybe he was gay. Who knows? But the pictures are terrific.

If they were a couple, they were a cute one. Thanks for sharing all of those photos.

Thanks for sharing. I don't think they were a "couple" as we might like to imagine. But they both are very handsome, well built, and clearly enjoyed each other's company. But there are a lot of straight guys who live together in this way, and we have to be careful not to stereotype them, as much as we might like to think that they were a "gay" couple.
