Versatile Top vs. just Versatile

I have always wondered why Escorts advertise as 'Versatile Top', as opposed to just

'Versatile'. Isn't Versatile Top just a subset of Versatile, and a redundant term? What does Versatile Top tell you about a guy apart from Versatile?

 

In my experience, Versatile Top means a guy who is pretty much only a Top (and frequently straight), but puts the word 'versatile' in there to attract a broader clientele. When you press a versatile top as to whether he bottoms the answer is usually 'no'. (So what does the 'versatile' in 'versatile Top' mean? that he can juggle two balls with one hand? ) . In my experiences the escort advertising as a versatile top is usually open to giving oral as well as receiving, getting rimmed, maybe even some light anal finger play, but generally not open to being bottom.

 

Although I have had several conversations with escorts who advertise as versatile top who indicate that they are willing to bottom for me since I am a top. Whether this is true or the classic sales "bait & switch" has yet to be determined.

 

I generally stick to escorts which advertise the qualities I require during our sessions, and of course a positive Daddy's review(s) for confirmation is always a plus.

I take it to mean the guy is versatile, but prefers to top. The only person I've met that posts this descriptor is Andrew Justice. He has had no problem bottoming.

 

I think the overall assumption is... if you call them up, unless you ask them to bottom, they are prepared to top. The opposite goes for a versatile bottom.

 

I wouldn't automatically assume a versatile top means the guy is straight. I've met quite a few who classify as straight or bi leaning toward straight who love to bottom (they really get into it--kissing and all)and take it like a champ.

Here in the DC area at least, versatile means bottom, maybe that's why so many guys call themselves versatile-top to guarantee they're able to get it and keep it hard long enough to put on a condom and fuck.

I always took versatile/top to mean that if we get together you will either top or bottom depending on what happens between us and you will be happy doing either (yeah! Andrew Justice). If you will do only mutual oral/rimming but won't bottom, then you are a top and you need to list yourself as only a top. My tongue or finger in your ass does not make you versatile.

Even versatile guys may prefer one position over the other. I'm fairly sure I've hired more guys who advertise as versatile tops than only Andrew Justice. But for example, if the old adage is true that more clients are bottoms, then advertising as a 'versatile top' may bring in more business. When I hired, I always tried to make sure they enjoyed bottoming and not just endured it.

I've been fine with hiring versatile tops. I try to always mention I'm a top/ask first if that includes bottoming. The few times I've forgotten it's still been ok. But maybe it depends on where you live.

Part of it comes from my personal life. The part of Long Island I live in is TOP central. I literally had a day where 3 different top guys on Grindr hit me up for joining in on a 3some.
