At Williamstown, MA Theater Festival. With Audra McDonald and Will Swenson.

 

First and only preview on Wednesday, August 6. I had never seen or read the Eugene O'Neil play, his last.

 

It seemed that Swenson as James Tyrone really tried, but does not know all his lines yet. McDonald is superb; it's a huge jump from Billie Holliday to Josie Hogan, but she make it look easy (which, of course it most certainly is not). Howard W. Overshown is quite good as Mike Hogan in a role without much rewards.

 

The Williamstown Theater (Main Stage) is wonderful place just on his own. Williamstown and Vermont were actually cool for the last few days, so the trip was well worth it -- and Audra McDonald is special. Ends Aug. 23!
