If you remember the 1984 miniseries The Jewel in the Crown there are some similarities with this play. All about the British Raj. In this play we are introduced to the poet Flora Crewe played by Romola Garai who goes to India for health reasons. An odd choice which is pointed out during the play. The story is played with both past and present intertwining. Her elderly sister Eleanor Swan played by Rosemary Harris is being interviewed about her sister. It seems her sister Flora had a reputation for being something of a party girl and never got the recognition she deserved in her lifetime.

There's a fine cast of both snooty English folks and (real) Indian actors some of whom are more British than the Brits who have taken over their country. It's the beginning of the backlash towards the British occupation of India and raises the question that perhaps India would have been best left alone to run their own country.

I liked the play very much and it has received both good and mixed reviews by the professionals.
