Such a great talent deserves two threads on this forum: this one and the one started by PK named Elaine Strich Lunching in the afterlife!!! (Even if PK does misspell Stritch)

Practically no one else I can think of is more deserving of Broadway dimming its lights in her honor than Stritch. What a talent. There is a story that Mary Martin and Ethel Merman were riding in a cab together one evening and Martin said, "Ethel, Broadway sure has been good to you." To which Merman replied, "And I've been very good to Broadway." That should be Stritch's epitaph too because holy moly, she was VERY good to Broadway.
