Hi I am looking to travel and I don’t want to do it by myself. I have no friends or family. Have tried being roomed with someone with disastrous results. I thought of hiring a travel companion and was looking for some advice on that. I know that I would pay a rate for their traveling time, their transportation, and say it is on a cruise their lodging but what else expense would I paid . I do have a limited income and may not be able to afford such an arrangement so I roughly need to figure these expenses out. I have gone on gay cruises alone and had awful times finding it hard to get people to interact with me. If I would financially work this out this could work for me. Beyond the cost of your companion's travel and lodging expenses, i'd budget about 1000 a day for his fee. It maybe more or maybe less. Depends on your rapport with the individual and also if it is a cruise/destination that is interesting to them. As for me, i think it would be difficult to plan a trip with an unknown escort that I would be meeting for the first time on the trip. Okay, I'm going to respond with a tangential suggestion since you mentioned your income is limited and I know that hiring someone from the United States to travel with you is going to end up costing more than you might be able to spend. (Then again, your idea of "limited income" might be very different than mine.)

 

You didn't say much about why you had such a difficult time meeting friends (and/or sex partners) on gay cruises, but assuming that that wasn't because your personality puts people off then I think you might find Puerto Vallarta to your liking. If you stay in the romantic zone (the main gay tourist area), it's safe, there are many affordable lodging options, lots of good food (some expensive but lots that's very affordable), there are many gay clubs (including some with strippers), and there's the gay beach. I've always had success meeting fellow tourists when visiting alone. I've also made friends with a few people who live there. There are lots of guys working there, too, and it isn't uncommon to see an older American or Canadian tourist with a young Mexican guy by his side for either a day or an entire week. I've never hired there for an extended appointment, but I have made many hourly hires and the going rate is much, much less than it is in the U.S. If you try to book someone in advance on Rentboy you'll pay a premium and would most likely have to get someone to come from Mexico City or Guadalajara, but you shouldn't have any problem finding company after you arrive if that's what you're looking for. If anything I got a little put off on some trips because I was there during off season so there were fewer clients around and way too many guys hoping to make some money -- some of whom I didn't find attractive in the least.

 

One of my best hires was in PV: Went to Anthropology (a stripper bar that has a tendency to rip off customers, so be mindful of drinks you're buying for yourself and employees there) and very much lusted after one specific dancer. One thing I would say is that it's much better to stay at a gay hotel than getting a condo since you'll be able to meet many more people staying at a hotel than you will a condo. Even though the accommodation won't be as nice, one doesn't visiting a beach resort in Mexico to spend a lot of time inside.

If you are looking for just friendship, I suggest you take a guided tour from a company such as Globus. I have been all over the US with them, and there is plenty of company on those types of trips. May single people travel that way, both male and female. Another suggestion is to take a gay cruise.

thank you for your responses. I didn't think I could afford a travel companion as such. I have been on gay cruises, travel groups and to gay resorts. However, physically I could go it alone as I have done for many years but mentally there are times now that I am not functioning properly. Without family or friends, sadly, my traveling days are behind me.

Since you mentioned you have a limited income, and might not be able to go, this is just a suggestion seeme, and it is a long shot, since I don't know anything about your hiring history, there are some escorts who would travel and not charge you for their time. I have friends who do this routinely. While I have not done it myself, in the traditional sense, discussion of travel has come up with escorts in the past, and I've had two that just volunteered and said they would not charge me for time. I would imagine it would have to be some place that the escort really wanted to travel to, and a certain level of feeling very comfortable with the escort, beyond just the hire.

 

The other suggestion would be just to be up front with an escort about having limited funds, especially if it is one that you know. I come to a special arrangement with guys for overseas trips.
