Info about to stay in NYC

Hi, I am new to the forum, signed up here `cause I`ve kind of planned at last minute to go to NYC for the first time by myself. I`m noticing that prices are very expensive here, especially hotels, just wanted to know if it`s worth to book an hotel for more than 1 week, meaning if there is good business over there since an hotel is not a cheap choice. I`ve also tried to look up in the airbnb website but with such a short time for seeking this most of everything is already booked. I would like a discret place to do my incalls, I`ve been suggested Chelsea and Hell`s kitchen, if you know about something like a studio or have any ideas they are welcome, thanks.
