How many of you like to go to a bar/club when you're out of town for clients?

One of the things I tend to always like to do when visiting a city is either collect a postcard, buy a local wine/beer, or go to a gay bar.

However, this past weekend I went to a gay bar in a small midwestern town, and within a few minutes I left out. The getting buzzed in an different city of unfamiliar surroundings, and the whole process of trying to meet someone to begin with. I just ask myself, what am I doing here? I'll be gone in a day or 2 anyway. Plus, it's like people don't even meet in bars much anymore. Not that it never happens, but most has become virtual thru phone apps. But I'm actually considering to just stick with that as my means of socializing when I'm away from home, seems to be less pressure and more relaxed than some random dive bar.

At the same time, I find it too boring hanging in a hotel the whole time and not trying to interact with peple, even if it's just to bullshit and see what I can accomplish. I tend not to do much of museum and 'touristy' landmarks, simply because I feel those things are better with company, although certain things like Mount Rushmore and Camelback mountain I made sure to check out. From my conversations, I find alot of other escorts don't go out on the town when they are touring. Is it something you do or don't enjoy?

Perhaps you could meet a client there "off the books" just so you have someone else to talk to that you "know". I find it easier to talk to other people when I already know someone else there. And they may know other people in the place if they are local or go there often enough.

I find the gay norm of going to a gay bar in every city they visit to be a waste of my own time

Tons of other things to do and see in places you've never been before: Why spend your time in an environment that is basically the same no matter where you go? Get out, get cultured, learn something new.

(This isn't said to you specifically Joey, but just a general opinion of mine)

lol, that's exactly what I was thinking. Most gay bars in the U.S. are the same thing regardless of where you go. The same old drag shows at midnight, same demeanor, cliques, etc. Now, there are some cities where I'd absolutely want to check them out like LA, SF, Miami, NYC, certain Upper Midwest cities. Just because...nightlife is part of the vacation. Nightlife IS a big part of any vacation so I don't like to exclude it. But, in most cities it's going to be very similiar to each other.

As far as meeting clients off clock, I just find that's not really always feasible. Not because of the money, but they have to maintain a bit of discretion on their end. It happens sometmes though, but it's usually part of the encounter. As far as going out and getting 'cultured', what would be some ideas? Seems like many of the attractions and things to do are group activity or something you'd do with a companion sort of thing.

I travel fairly extensively outside the U.S., and I almost always visit a local gay bar or two. It's a piece of home... of a sort: There's a sense of belonging to a worldwide community. Sure, there can be a sameness, especially in stand-and-pose flashy video bars. But I often A) discover friends who'll share locals' secrets about a destination and B) learn fascinating things about the gay subculture within a different culture. And being a born-and-bred Manhattanite (don't hold it against me!), sometimes I feel that applies to other towns in the U.S., lol

I tend to go out and try to meet people when out of town. For me it has resulted in more business most of the time. Yes it may take a little while once I initially arrive typically it pays off for me.

When I'm traveling, I would absolutely love it if a "working" guy approached me and let me know he was working. For example, I was in San Diego for a weekend of theatre and was sitting in the hotel bar afterwards one of the shows having a nightcap. I had this fantasy of an escort spotting me, approaching me and working out a deal. It has never happened to me and I wish it would. When you guys are traveling, instead of trying gay bars, you should try hotel bars or theatre/movie lobbies, Starbucks, etc. There are a lot of us traveling alone with the means and desire to hire but just don't know how to in a strange town.
