So recently I had an ad response from someone via text message and they stated they would be in the are this friday. I gathered there interest as usually time wise and so on. At the end of our conversation he confirmed all the details then asked if he could have my name and address to send me a check. I do not accept checks as a form of payment as there are a lot of scams involving checks and what not out there. When I stated this to him he said "okay never mind, ill just stick with my usual guy since he takes checks and trust me". Who does accept checks as a form of payment? I just figured it was understood cash or paypal kind of payment. I have taken a check before dont get me wrong but it was after being flown out multiple times for the weekend so someone i knew and trusted. I was even allowed to take the car and go get it put in my bank the next day whilsts still with him so i knew it cleared before the end of the trip. thoughts? advice?

Too many red flags here, Zach! (1) No first time client would expect an escort to accept a personal check, (2) It looks like a ploy to get your home address and real name, (3) Depositing a check at your bank creates a paper trail for someone with less than "well-meaning" intentions. Sure, after you've seen someone several times and developed a level of trust, if you choose to accept a check from that person, I see no problem with it. (except the aforementioned paper trail). But never, never accept check payment from someone you don't know. IMHO, of course. :)

+1...CBW is correct, very dangerous Zach. In this day of cyber theft, it would behoove you to guard all your identity like Fort Knox.

He's trying to scam you, Zach. Of course, you could have called his bluff by giving a PO Box number to gauge his reaction. Another way to handle something like this would be to say: "Hold on, I have my Square device I can use right now over the phone and process your payment. What's your credit card number?" I bet he'd back off very quickly.

Cheques (yes, that's how we spell it up here) are just pieces of paper that can linked to closed accounts, cancelled, bounce after they appear to have cleared, etc. Only accept them from known trusted clients & even then they are undesirable. Cash, postal money orders, PayPal & Square (or it's equivalents) are acceptable, with cash by far preferred. Even if you were accepting cheques, why would you have it mailed to you in advance: he was phishing for personal info. In Britain, I used to accept cheques, as they had a system whereby account holders could get cards which guaranteed their cheques up to a certain limit, but this has now been phased out due to the demise of cheques generally.

I've gotten the same type of deal many times, the client wants to setup an appointment and then wants to send a check ahead of time. I would tell the client to wait until the day of the appointment to pay and cash only. If he doesn't agree then he probably wasn't looking for an appointment anyway.

Zach - As a banker, I will confirm that this is a huge scam, often found on ebay transactions. When the victim deposits the check, and it take up to a week or longer to be returned back to victim's account if the scammer is issuing fraudulent checks on a valid checking account number. (If the account holder keeps an emergency cushion in the checking account, the check will not bounce for insufficient funds. Only a few days later when the customer realizes the balance isn't right will it result in the returned check.) By then you may have already seen the guy and now be out of luck.

This is basic escorting 101 guys: IT IS A CASH BIZ...PERIOD. NO EXCEPTIONS! Any client of even modest means with an atm card or a major credit card can go to any atm anywhere and withdraw your fee. If he cant then he isnt your client. I dont even trust paypal.....never have...and certainly would never take a credit card.

When I used to be all about the weekends etc., I would seek alternate means of payment simply because the idea of walking around with a thousand+ in cash was very uncomfortable for me.

I would have never even asked to do this for a single hour with someone I didn't already establish a prior relationship with. There are some escorts out there that take credit cards without any issue, but they usually advertise this service. It would be unreasonable to expect any escort to do this with someone they have never met before. I wouldn't recommend you taking a check from anyone that you didn't trust. A certified cashier's check or money order might be an exception, but you can still get burned.

If you aren't comfortable doing it, then don't!!! Paper trails suck anyways in this business.

Its just that annual fee and transaction fee that sucks with PayPal and the Client can potentially cancel the transaction~

I had it for awhile and decided that it really was just another business expense, (like there aren't enough in this business with ad fees website fees, phones and services there, flights, food, the gym, hotels, car rentals, very expensive rubber and leather gear, toys, lube, condoms, candles, music and more...)

The "square" seems to work fine for credit card Clients~

Checks whether personal or cashiers are a no. Gift cards, clothing and restaurant vouchers are a big Nay as well... Those are nice considerations as gifts or perhaps as a tip but none of that pays the bills~ ;-P

Prior threads have discussed the issues/problems and difficulties with paypal. I would never ever use them. If you look at their terms of service, they will not process payments for companionship if they know what that is, according to some of the posters here. I hope you never get burned by them, Joey.
