Saw this with Legendary Dave on Friday night and enjoyed it a great deal. It's based on a 70 page section of War And Peace. It's all sung and quite effective. The first act works well but it's the 2nd act that hits it out of the park.

I particularly liked the "friendship" song sung by Sonya and the closing meditation about the great comet sung by Pierre. It's done in a supper club environment and a Russian dinner is served as part of the experience. It received

very high critical praise here in New York. I understand there are some deals if you search a bit.

I saw this a couple of weeks ago and echo Cash's rave for this production. Not presented in a theater but in a tent constructed for this venue down in the Meatpacking District at the beginning of the Highline.. It becomes a nightclub, Kazino, when the show is not performing.

As a pop opera it's quite good. Based on a part of War and Peace by Tolstoy, it cronicles the tragic love affair of Natasha and Pierre in 1812 Moscow prior to Napolean's invasion and buring of the city. The music and cast are excellent, the costumes great and as it is set in and amongst the audience, it's interactive. Of note in the cast is the lovely young singer Phillipa Soo (Natasha) who has a lovely voice. Another standout is actor Lucas Steel who despite his porn star name, is the handsome and winning cad, Anatole. Reviews were very good. It's selling well. Prices are $125, which includes a meal.

Now for the bad part. The food is strictly "so-so". Chicken and salmon mixed on a platter with veggies, a brown grain and salad served family style. Cold potato dumplings. You are given a vodka shot and a shot of bortsch to begin with brown bread rolls. Crudite was on the table with dip. The entree is served at intermission. I ordered a bourbon and water and got a bourbon and coke and before I could grab the waiter he was gone and the doors were closed for the show to begin. The drink cost $25! The guy next to me was guzzling beer at $12 a pop. He got a big surprise when the bill arrived. It's all very rushed. Once the doors close and the production begins the wait staff does not enter the room.

So, yes, some discounts available. It was on Goldstar Events but the offer has expired. It will never make it to TDF. I understand the box office has been good and it's projected to have a long run. And yes, matinee performances. Sunday's at 1PM and Wednesday's at 2PM.
