Let's Do Chicago - September 2013

I've talked with a couple of clients about the possibility of starting another escort/client gathering in Chicago, in the early fall.

I understand a prior event here didn't go as well as planned, but that's no reason not to try, try again. I've checked the calendar and there doesn't appear to be anything that would screw up the weekend or make hotel rooms prohibitively expensive. Airfare isn't bad either. Plus, Chicago is a good halfway point for people on the west AND the east coasts with travel times. If you've never been to Chicago, it's a lovely city and there's a great gay scene and a lot to do.

So... would anyone be up for meeting for the weekend... say September 7?

Your ideas for events, suggestions for this or another date that works better? My initial idea was that we could celebrate all birthdays on the same weekend, like racehorses on Jan 1.

Deej, Cooper, & co., would you please make this a sticky thread?

Even if 5 people show up, it will be a lot of fun and we can grow from there.

Thanks! :D

Well you are right about several things. Yes Chicago is an amazing city. Hands down a wonderful place to explore. The architecture alone is worth the trip. There is of course the people, food, lake front, shopping, museums, historical districts.....did I say food, yes all are not to be missed, and a fantastic transit system, makes it a very easy city to get around in. There is also Raul G Manzo, who would be a wonderful tour guide for any group that arrived. So yes, I might be up for something like that. ;)

September 7 weekend is perfect as far as flights and accomodations. Labor Day Weekend is the weekend before, so there may be great deals in one of my favorite cities. Just checked American Airlines rates (great indicator) and it is ony $232 round trip for that time period. since I was not able to get to DC or PSP, would be most interested in having an event in this wonderful city. Would love to get Nate and Tyger to attend

While I am open to either date, I would say the last time with Market Day everything was jacked up in price. With post labor day, travel rates come down and Chicago may start having some nice weekend packages depending if the Bears or Cubs are in town. Market Day does have the party atmosphere but that was part of the undoing for some of the events but in general I heard it was a pretty good time. I would like to thank Chris for proposing the idea and I think maybe Leigh might have had his hand in this a bit too. But I am willing to commit to either and make my first public appearance at one of these wonderful luncheons.

Scenario 1) Fall is cooler (although with current weather patterns, who knows), kids are in school, Labor Day is passed, and there's plenty of stuff to do for smaller groups.

Scenario 2) August would have a keynote event to go to, everyone could wear shorts since the weather is hot, there's the lake to visit.

I'm down with either one, so I guess it depends on whether we need an event to draw people into coming like with MAL and the Pool Party, or if we can create something on our own at a local venue. If we structure it like the other events, we should plan on

1) a meet/greet time

2) people filtering in at various times

3) an initial dining event

4) entertainment - bar, karaoke, museum, music, etc

5) second dining event

6) something smutty (yet tasteful, okay... who am I kidding) :)

7) something outside to enjoy weather

8) last night event + goodbye

Thoughts?

Thanks Chris for suggesting this..I tried to make it to the last Chicago event but could not do it....I would luv to meet there in the fall for a get together with other forum guys....

I realize how hard it is to find a common date when all can come. maybe give us all some time to think about what dates might work for us and then see if we can have a survey to determine the dates that meet the majority's avalability....

Personally I would love that, but I don't want people not to be able to find accommodations or it be way off the charts expensive. But if August means BVB in a linen suit

lol lol lol....I don't think I will ever live that one down. I will say however, unknown to all in attendance at that PS weekend, I bought the outfit merely an hour before the event. I had gone to breakfast, and walking back to the car, I passed this charming little men's store on the boulevard. The salesman was "drop dead gorgeous" so I ventured in just to buy a shirt from him, so that I could flirt for awhile. He was sooooo sexy that an hour later, I ended up with an entire outfit, right down to new underwear. Very expensive, but worth every single minute I spent in that store....lol

As far as Chicago is concerned, I am going to hop across "the Pond" toward the end of the year, but once dates are confirmed, I will try and cordinate things. I would absolutely love to attend!!

Sounds like it has the potential for being a wonderful weekend...

Chris,

I'd be glad to help out and we can talk more about that when I see you in May. September 7 will be better for rates at hotels and other events and venues, but the Market is a very HOT time, and I don't mean the temperature, but that can be HOT at that time too, so lots of shorts, no shirts, etc..... you get the picture. I don't know my schedule as yet, but would certainly try to be there for what ever date is selected....

August is also very humid and can be rainy. I would recommend September over August.

Northalstead Market Days is August 10-11 this year. (The largest street fair in the state.)

That is a fun event I attended a couple of year ago. If you're staying up in Boystown that is. If you're downtown you may not even notice there's a special event going on :-)

My favorite time in Chicago is "indian summer". But in any event, I'll be happy to do whichever date you decide on, guys.

If I go, that'd depend heavily upon where I'm at that time. It would be a good chance to get a re-do of the city as my first visit in 2009 (not for this event) just wasn't pleasant. Late October, blustery-cold-damp-grey, 5 days straight. I have a friend here who keeps trying to get me to go with her, in May.

But I keep looking at those pretty postcards that I collected of Lakeshore drive and definitely want a better experience...and yeah Steven I stayed in downtown and missed most of boystown. We'll have to see...
