To tour or to focus on one market exclusively?

Also guys this question is about how to properly plan a touring schedule these days and how to evaluate potential new cities to tour to. Advice and counsel is sought here from fellow pros and of course i always want to hear from the perspective of the client. I go to HOUSTON and I get so slammed that part of me says to move there. The same thing happens in Chicago for me. The ATL was so good to me for a year and a half that I referred to it as the ATM! Then there are the hidden jewels (those undiscovered frontiers that are underserved) like Detroit and Pittsburg. I was so busy in Detroit last July I though my dick was going to fall off and yet no one tours there...ever. Here is a dilema I am facing: When I tour I miss alot of good new clients and regulars back home. I am asking all these questions because now that I am SINGLE again I have no limits and no restraints on my 2013 touring schedule OR ON OVERNIGHTS OR TRAVEL. I hear DC is great....Philly is underserved...etc. Is targeting major metro areas the best strategy or the smaller less served markets where ther is virtually zero competition. What do yall think. I want to hear because I am so Damn old school in my thinking that I want to learn, keep pace and be relevant in my biz. http://www.rentmen.com/mikeyusatop

I'm trying to understand exactly what you're asking here, paragraphs help (I tend to over-do it).

Ummm, I don't know what to say really. I guess just go to where you do well in. Again, as has been repeated before that what works for one may not work for others. I am personally terrified of going to Detroit. They seem to be in horrible financial shape and I've not had any good experience in Indianapolis or Chicago...both rust belt cities. Not to mention they are dangerous cities as well IMO to work/be a client. My first couple of trips to Houston weren't very good but subsequent visits seemed to yield some clients. But it's been a couple years since I've been that way. Your talking has me tempted to visit, but Phoenix is closer and more pleasing aesthetically to me. Think Houston with cactus and mountains and a less congested highway system. I have family in Dallas whom I promised I'd visit more often, but I see it as me traveling someplace which has a very fluctuating market and is a bit too risky to travel to for when the same distance I can go someplace where I'll do better.

Anyway, getting off on a tangent. Anyhow, if you do plan to move someplace just make sure it'll be good to relocate to. I have found that moving to a place sometimes eliminates certain regulars who appreciate you from a distance. That's what has put me off from moving to some of my better tour destinations. I have had clients who tell me they only hire guys who are traveling thru. Maybe they don't have to worry about running into you or you being psycho crazy stalker.

But if Tampa is getting you a bunch of flakes, fakes and fools as you mentioned, I'd certainly expand a bit. I wish I could visit my home state more often but as I've said before, I will ONLY go back when clients fly.....me there that is. Florida is an example of a market that has capsized due to lower rates and crap economy. A client yesterday contacted me on adam saying he was from Miami. I quoted my rate and he claimed he could "get me for $90 in Miami" I told him that I am from Miami also and guys would pay $300 when I lived there. He didn't have shit to say. So that was irrelevant to me.

I am willing to bet that this is particularly true with *any* southern state. Atlanta is all good and fun for the first three months ... hell, you could probably make continuous money in Atlanta if you didn't live here and you just came back time and time again.

xander that proved true for me. When I was there a week at a time Atlanta was the ATM. When I was there a month it was just the ATL-steady but not spectacular. Joey is my fav on here because he actually talks and gets his thoughts out there (with paragraphs! lol) I mean I just think I am overwhelmed by the whole country being out there and available for me now. choices and decisions....... As far as Florida is concerned other than PEAK tourist season (now) what Joey said is sadly true. On my soon to be Miami tour I have not had ONE local to book but I am hearing from numerous tourists and visitors. The same is true for Palm Beach. When I was a kid living there it was the locals WHO DROVE MY BIZ. Now they want, as Joey says, $90.........any other PROS have any thoughts here?

Mikey, it's funny you ask this, because I've had the same question on my mind. I'll give you my spin on cities I've been to and my experience.

I always find that the best way to tour is to have at least ONE client that you may know or are sure will come through. Then at least part of the trip will be paid for. The other thing is to choose a destination you want to visit on your own anyways, that way you won't feel as though the trip is a bust. I wish us escorts could somehow get together and swap apartments and we do each others clients or just serve that city. You come to NYC, Ill go to Tampa. (although my studio is much smaller than your apartment/house haha)

I've been to Dallas and always have had great results.

Philly can be either a total binge or bust, glad it's close enough to drive to.

Chicago always seems to work out, but have had times where I just broke even.

South Beach is always horrible for me. It seems that the amount of guys brought in or dance at Twist get busy. (the rates there are also low)

Ft. Lauderdale is mixed.

I'm from Detroit and go back 2-3 times a year to visit family and always do very well.

DC is mixed.

Palm Springs you can do well but may need to lower your prices because of all the guys from there and Los Angeles.

San Fransisco is also mixed for me.

Boston can be great if you are right in the city. Provincetown is hit or miss depending on the weekend and if the Dick Dock is busy.

Fire Island totally SUCKS. They just go to the meat rack.

I've never been on a real TOUR...going from one place to another or just driving down the coast. I know guys that do this and do great.

I think wherever you decide to go, don't suffer lost clients at home...they will be there when you get back. Also, you have to have a life, so see these little tour dates as more than just work. Go with the idea that you are going to do something besides sit in a hotel for a week straight. That way you are really living it up instead of just passing time.

I have only been to a few places for a week at a time. Mostly do weekends and try to PRICELINE the hotel/flight so it feels like a fun trip.

I'd love to hear your spin on all this too. I am going to Aruba next week with family. Everytime I go anywhere I post here in the Escort travels to see if per chance someone might be in a non-gay territory and is as hungry for cock and ass as I am. Sometimes works, sometimes not, but doesn't hurt to try.

You know I've really thought about doing something like this as well. But if the person has alot of clients it would equate to lots of comings and goings. I'd be concerned about how discreet the person is and it'd just make me feel a little less secure after the swap meet is over. And much less likely but not out of the question, if something bad happened between escort and client...that can cause issues. But, if someone is willing to watch my cat during that time, that could work out pretty well :) I can just say you're 'watching my cat' while I'm away.

I 2nd doing more than just staying in a hotel all week. I've gotten invited to a 2nd visit to SF next month and am certainly going to spend more time in the Castro district this time.

  • 2 weeks later...
Maybe team up and travel together. Road trips would allow for expense sharing and you'd have each other (with some things already in common) to sightsee, etc. And then there are duos, and trios, etc.

There may be logistical problems with sharing a room, tho. I'd guess that most appointment with traveling guys are incalls at the escort's hotel. If so, there may be scheduling conflicts and the inconvenience of having to vacate the room for someonone else's appointment.

Of course, if you can sell a lot of duo appointments...:)
