Are the Black Party and Hookies awards worth the effort to attend?

The Black Party has gotten very expensive. I used to go and always had a great time. There is lots to see and do and participate in. The music can be great or awful. It lasts a long while. I usually went in the morning after I slept and did NO drugs except my coffee. A good percentage are doing drugs though. It's a great costume party. The acts can be very entertaining, they also have some sub-super-dance Diva doing a few of her songs. I saw Cyndi Lauper, Kristine W and others singing there. If you have never been, I would say it should be on your bucket list. Although, what you see could scar you for life. Guys into every fetish are there, and some of them do "performances" on the stage. The snake in the guys ass was a bit much for me and the guy hanging by his piercings made my nipples hurt.

 

Does that help? Haha...I know...it's like watching a train wreck, you can't help but rubberneck.

 

As far as the Hookies go. They are a bit boring, but lots of eye candy. It gets you in front of people though....but if that's what you were looking for, I'd just go to the Daddy's reviews get togethers like the one Oliver has in Palm Springs. That is a lot more fun.

If you're trying to make a splash and want some face time in front of potential clients or press, then go.

 

I don't think that many potential clients go to this type of event, but I'd be happy if Chris proves me wrong :-)

As far as splash and face time goes, personally I prefer to see but not to be seen, one of the reason I don't show my face online.

Agreed. It has always been. Generally all big parties in the USA (White, Black, Alegria) are quite expensive comparing to other parts of the world. Count around $90-100 for general admission and up to $300 for a VIP ticket.

 

There are some things that you should do at least once in your life and the Black Party is one of them.

The black party looks amazing -- I've been wanting to go for a few years. There are simply some performances there that you won't see anywhere else in America.

 

Last year I had my ticket, plane flight, and hotel booked -- only to find when I got there that you had to be 21! There was nothing on the ticket that said this -- oh well, it was NYC and there was no complaining about that! I might be going next year.

The Hookies Awards and the Black Party are two separate events but they do happen during the same time frame, with the awards show kicking off Black Party Weekend. The Hookies are totally a popularity contest, as they were intended to be. You go to your favorite client's ad page and nominate them for an award in order to get them added exposure. I went to my first Black Party last year and performed at the Expo which was loads of fun. I made sure to have plenty of business cards on me to hand out to potential clients or porn recruiters and have definitely gotten work from them. So, yes, this is an event for which clients fly out to NYC to attend. The Hookies Awards themselves are fun because, as many people have mentioned it, you get a lot of eye candy upon attending, meet some of the hottest porn stars and escorts, and it's just one big networking event. The Black Party, and other circuit parties, have gotten pretty expensive but that's primarily due to the traffic they receive as well as the performances that are produced for the show. If you really need another reason to go, I'll be there showing off again this year! ;]

Except that if you are not friends of Rentboy, your clients won't be allowed to vote for you or they will nominate you time and time again and the nomination will never show. They are a popularity contest, yes, but not amongst clients; to win or to be nominated you have to be popular in Rentboy.com's quarters.

 

As for the Black Party... I have never been but I have been wanting to go for quite a while. Sadly it always coincides with important stuff that I can't move. I hope next year I will.

 

Ace, If you go, you should let us know how it went.

What do you mean by that? I've been having my clients and fans nominate me on my page so I definitely hope those votes count! Who else would be sending them in?

 

As for BPX this year, are you unable to come this year? It should be another amazing show!

In my experience (and yours may be 100% different) the best clients want an escort who keeps a pretty low profile, isnt a partier and who is very discreet. speaking as a client, what we want is someone with multiple great reviews and a guy who suits our needs. celebrity is not impressive unless he's got the goods to back it up

The only time I have heard clients discussing a gentleman's background is does he do porn or not. Several have stated on the forum they wont hire gentlemen who have done porn. I think to a client events such as the Black party are irrelevant unless the gentleman makes a complete ass of himself and draws public eye, possibly by being escorted out by the police. Now I look for a bit more than just the following statement but I would think performance would rate awfully high on the list. Discretion is important but that is not that difficult, just dont be a jerk about it.
