Do you think a city's cost of living correlates with escort rates (or vice versa)

I was having a discussing on another site about what people are paying to rent out apartments in other cities. I was mentioning if it would be possible to live alone for example Boston for the same price give or take of what I currently pay. But people were just like no way, you won't find anything for that price and $600 is enough to live with 2 or 3 roommates. That would make doing incalls hard if not impossible. It's almost like you're given no choice but to live alone unless you really know someone well enough or are the main owner of the apartment who calls all the shots. I can't just move into an apartment with people and expect them to be okay with what I'm doing...or even want them to know what I'm doing for personal reasons.

Anyway...back to the point. I was thinking well maybe that COL means actually getting some higher rates. Where I live now, some of the offers I get are really lowball ones especially now that men4rent doesn't list rates. And I also found that whenever I did have my rates listed, I was barely busy at $200 but only mildly busy at $150. But getting talked down to $100 wasn't out the ordinary. Or someone will rent occasionally but it's something they can afford to do once in a blue. It's like it's great that I'm not paying much for rent, but it seems to be reflected in the area rates as well. And that's not to suggest I live in a low-rent location by any means as I host regularly and don't have any complaints.

The northeast seems to be the highest rent areas next to San Fran, but to me those same areas are high-rent but equally saturated. Last thing I'd want is to move someplace with high rent and not getting enough in to afford it. Lots of 'rent' boys in those areas but then again...maybe unlike my current location the people there can afford it unlike here where there aren't many but people can't or just don't want to.

Hi Joey, the escort probably charges what the market rates are in the region. If the costs of living are higher, it would follow that escort rates would be correspondingly higher. However, i'm sure as other escorts and posters on this board have also experienced expensive escorts in smaller cities which may be driven by supply and demand. In the same vein, I don't understand though if the supply were so high in nyc, why the prices are not more competitive. I guess people are willing to pay 300 plus for an encounter.

So true, Mr. Draker, so true. At least in my industry, salaries are about one third higher here in nyc. So, i guess that must hold true across other professions including the world's oldest :) I wonder if there is an Economist's Big Mac Index for american cities so that those of us can gauge whether we are getting a good deal? Oh, what am I saying, i never gauge anything with the big head when it comes to escort pricing... the little head leads the way!

People are also paying $500 plus for a ****Hotel room in New York. It's New York after all and there's no other place like New York~

market forces

And what would those be?

the thing is yes in a smaller city you may be able to charge a higher rate but at the same time the volume may be really low over a long run. You'd been of ran the gamut in a matter of weeks or months. Then along comes the requests for $50/hour. In NYC, if competitive refers to lower prices, how can one when the COL is so high plus the fact that I'd imagine there's more to be spent. You'd be overworked and underpaid just to get by.

That said, even if I were making $200-$300/hr I still can't see it working unless they've been around or are really offering some off the charts service and spending off the Richter on advertising . Just looking at rentboy's 428 escorts not to mention Gold and Platinum are always sold out. Always. I've tried advertising in NYC, but I'm not going to pay to be 400th on the list. I just imagine a long line of 428 escorts all waiting to get picked up by a handful of clients at a given time. Anything less than Gold should be free like the China and India ads. The times I did advertise, the responses were more for offers to be in porn, and that's just not what I want to do. I started watching this season of The Bachelor...that comes to mind LOL. A bunch of thirsty bitches trying to get 'roses'.

Interesting subject. Suspect that Steve is correct and the market drives the rate. In my industry, we pay a premium to employees that live in San Fran, NY, or LA; the premium is about 35%. We have a lower premium (about 20%) for employees in Chicago, Boston and Seattle.
