One thing I would say about your ad is simply to ad a picture where you're smiling. Honestly, when I see someone smiling, if they have a crooked smile or something like that, it makes me feel a thousand times better about hiring them.

I have been trying a few different business practices one of which being sending out an update email with newer photos, updated rates, and how I am doing, also reminding of what it is I offer. I wonder what practices others are doing and how they are working for you. Hope to get some great responses.

If you're sending out emails with all that information...it might backfire.

 

I do not send out any email reminders to local clients. I'm sure they see my ad everyday, or perhaps have my number. Sending out new photos isn't necessary as whenever you update your profile, you'll get texts and emails anyway saying, "like your new photos". If you want to do all that, getting a blog is a discrete way of doing it, which I am getting back to doing now. That way, if by chance the husband peeks at the emails (which is unlikely to ever happen BUT, the thought of it on a client's end may not be welcomed). If anything his husband is joining us but that's another story

 

Also, don't be afraid to branch off of the main escort sites especially since you aren't quite out there 100% yet. Adam4adam, backpage and even craigslist all get dished regularly but you know what...there's still guys out there willing to pay. Sometimes they are only good for a short period of time every so often. In some cases, more so than men4rent and rentboy in a given month. It may not be $200-$300 all the time, but it can be $100-150 for half an hour or something. I've made upwards of $250 on backpage...$850 on adam4adam meeting 1 client and it then lead to another overnight vacation together. When you look at the true sense of marketing, it's basically being everywhere.

 

Lastly, don't rely too much on how the 'big name' escorts on here how they market themselves. For one, you'll likely get redirected back to the forum or probably some stuck up attitude response. Couple years ago I had wanted to get an idea of the Vegas market. Hot, White body-builder type. He says, "It sucks. Go to New York. That's where I'm from. Yeah, just go there, don't come back here." He was right but damn, the way it came off was kinda snobby. I keep hearing people being directed to the same guys all the time and getting set up. What's successful for one person might not be for the next. Secondly, everyone does things differently. There really is no right or wrong way to market, it's just whats effective for you in your area and the clients. Some things I do, even the most popular escorts don't do. But it works for me.

It works differently with different guys. I have a good online presence where I live. Many guys will find you via google than via an escorting site if you have a good enough website with lots of search words on the front page of your website. My site has words like gay escort rent newcastle hotel escort tyneside north east england. All words a prospective client will use in google to find a gay escort. I always rank top 10 in google for a simple search of gay newcastle escort and usually I am listed first or second.

 

I list myself on every single free site going. Any publicity is good publicity and sometimes those free listings will rank high on search engines. I always take advantage of any free "one month" offers on paid sites, I don't necessarily stay and pay but they can get you an odd client now and again.

 

It's different in the UK where sex work is legal, because we can also advertise in newspapers in the classified or personal sections. I put an advert in a national newspaper once every couple of months. It costs me £45 ($70) but I get about 10-15 new clients from it, of which 3 or 4 usually carry on seeing me for a long time. It's a big outlay for 1 small 2 line advert which gets printed only the once but I can get £1000 worth of work from it, when you factor in repeat appointments.

I also had a second thought. I see you are in Raleigh / Durham / Chapel Hill area of North Carolina. Great place, but maybe not for escorts. There are so many fine schools in that area, with thousands of horny students around your age. Why pay for it when you can get it for free? Perhaps if you are serious about escorting, you need to go someplace where there is less competition from those willing to give it away.

 

I would disagree about Raleigh/Durham. Two of the best were from Raleigh. My escorts to Palm Springs 2011. Now both retired and moving on to other things. Dane Michaels and Ryaan Morgan. Dane was 1st runner up as EOY in 2012. Both were honorable mentions in 2011. I know that Zach knew both of them.

I’d agree that you might lose some business, but again, I don’t believe either routinely offered incalls. And it didn’t seem to hurt them.

Well, unfortunately one of the guests at this years luncheon won’t be the wonderful Mr. Draker. Too bad, cause it was great to see you there. And in PS. Zach Wilson, I've gotta hand it to you - you've made a number of posts showing you're trying so hard to learn about this business and find ways to succeed in it. I remember one post you wrote about ppl mistaking you for a bottom, although you clearly say you are a top. my advice to you - and everyone who escorts in fact - is to be sure not to let prospective clients push you into situations that you know you dont want to be in. even if they tempt you with money; it's not worth selling your soul like that. stick to what you like, you'll feel better about it and continue to love the work.

See that's the difference here though. Any site worth it's weight i salt is not free except hourboy. And Hourboy has slim bookings, but I still use it because it helps and it's a well laid-out site that allows unlimited edits, lots of pics and free spech.

 

I still feel advertising has gotten too expensive. And it's sad because there are more guys now competing for clients, so they are making extra profit regardless. However, its also driven some guys off the sites as well. If it's too cheap, more guys would be advertising. But for us who regularly use it it's costing more. I paid $49 for men4rent 10 days ago. Now they want another $59-119. They are charging extra money for a few weak upgrades.

I agree...and if you do choose to bottom, maybe try experimenting with someone who you choose to do it with rather than doing it out of popularity. You never know...I've come across lots of 'tops' who end up being the bottom for an hour, or 2

There's a few over here that I use. If there's a paid site ... Like Rentmen who I am with at the moment who have given me 3 months free ... I will stick myself on. Clients on here (and escorts) will say don't advertise here and don't advertise there .... Yes don't if Its crap and they're charging you but any exposure is good exposure and if its free for a week, a month or 3 months then stick yourself on. You could meet Mr Merchant Banker who might see you 15 times over 2 years. That's how I look at it anyway.
