I haven't been using rentboy lately as I tend to advertise on there in cycles, but I've taken a look at my local listings and seems like there are more asking around the 250-300 range. Now, I'm not making a statement about anyone in particular as of course I know anyone may choose to ask for whatever they want...But I'm looking around like wait a minute...some of these guys aren't even on 'that' level and are charging more than myself and some of the other established guys with consistent rates around 200 and under. I'm just hoping clients aren't getting confused thinking why someone with professional pics, an excellent physique and good reviews would be charging less than someone with home-made pics and no reviews.

I'm just wondering about the psychological aspect of it. I generally tend to go with the Classic ad as my area only has 1 page anyway...but if I'm looking from a clients perspective and I'm listed at the bottom and my rate is $50-100 less than some amateur, what kind of message is that sending; if any? Or does it not even matter and it's based on what I mentioned earlier: reviews, good pics and other attributes?

Has anyone here found that buying a higher service level made much of a difference in a place with just 1 or 2 pages of ads? Going back to the main topic, I know for a fact that guys around here aren't open to spending the amount that's being asked for in these ads. 1 or 2 periodically isn't really a significant measurable amount that I could count. Maybe I'm wrong, and need to put my rates up perhaps? But I guess it would depend on whether someone has short-term needs or long term goals.

I wonder with the higher rates if its just about numbers getting someone in once then moving on. I bet a 200.00 guy will get more repeats than a 300.00. In my business to me its about volume. I charge 75.00 hr 100.00 for ninety minutes. Ive seen rates from guys with no real training charging 120.00hr to 160 to 170ish for ninety minutes. I bet those clients aren't going back as often. I have 2 clients that hire twice a week if I charged more they would look elsewhere. In July I gave 70 massages that month. I bet those in the higher price point didn't even come close..

I think that there are far too many variables involved to make any kind of assumption on the topic. The escorts experience, his notoriety, supply and demand in a particular area, the going rate which varies from region to region in the country, what an escorts limitations are during the hire. What the escort looks like, his appeal in general, his reviews, his age, his desirability...et cetera. We could discuss this all day, and never agree on what the norm is. Are they going up? probably, but I haven't seen any trends that are alarming. I think most increases have matched the increase in the cost of living. Just my opinion however.

I think it's hard to generalize about clients - and there's no easy way to collect data. For myself- I only look at price if the other parts of the ad have caught my interest. If I'm interested in 2 guys and one is $300 and the other is $200 - I'll likely go with the less expensive.

I don't think a lower price has a negative effect unless it's so low that it doesn't seem legitimate. But as has been demonstrated here time & time again, individual opinions as to what constitutes a reasonable/fair/typical price differ.

But not much more. 200 isn't that far off from 300. theory is, someone who can afford 200 can afford 300 respectively. But from 100-200, each subsequent 20 dollars can make a world of a difference.

but back to what you said, $75 then becomes that much more accesible. One would think charging that amount would possibly equate to more clients, but in escorting it doesnt alway work that way. I understand what you're saying and it does help give an insight to what lower rates may be able to accomplish (coupled with the kind of experience you may have), but that's just unrealistic in this scenario.

There just isn't enough of us who are going to be charging $75-100 an hour on escort sites and see this surge of clients. It's not going to happen because clients who won't pay $300 probably wouldn't pay $30 either. Gay sex is the cheapest sex out there anyway (I'm not referring to escort prices)...so the real theory would be that one ought to command something reasonable as the numbers we're working with are smaller.

Right, but in this example the variables are being ignored. This is all assuming price determines the quality of escort and outcome of booking. If the perceived quality of one person is greater, and that person is charging less than someone who isn't...would that mean anything to the prospects?

And just to add...since m4rent has stopped allowing prices to be put up, I've noticed the number of inquiries from there has gone straight to hell. I honestly can't remember the last time I've had a new appointment from them (my regulars know my rates so contact me from there any way). Eventually what's going to happen is people are going to stop advertising there and if they don't repent, then it's going to collapse. Point fucking blank. They should be ashamed to call themselves an escort site and not even allow rates to be put up. Who does that? I can see if a guy chooses not to post his rates, that's individual choice. But not allow anyone to? I'm about to email them and ask for my money back. This is bullcrap.
