The Lucille Lortel Theater looks more haggard every time I go there. Someday it will have to give it up.

but the set for Don't Go Gentle was quite an eye-pleaser, and I forgot all about Lucille once this amazingly good play started.

it hasn't received much attention that I know of, but it is an MCC production. It's about a former prosecutor and strict Republican judge who ignored his wife and two kids while he paid tribute to enforcing the law. Now the wife is dead, the ex-judge ill, and wanting to make amends for his lifelong negligence of his human side.

So, he takes on a pro bono case of a woman who has lost her job due to a bad lawyer losing her case. She has a teen-aged son, Rasheed, who is remote. Anyway, the judge gets so involved in helping these two that his own children feel slighted. The emotions that come forth are very well done, and the play takes on some good issues. I liked it a lot.
