In a shocking announcement (it was long thought he would never conduct again), the MET has said that music director James Levine, 69, will return to conduct the MET at Carnegie Hall in May for a concert and then 3 productions (Wozzeck replacing the new Parsifal which is NOT returning, Cosi, and Falstaff) in the 2013/14 season. For the first time, FULL medical details have been revealed in an openness that Levine has NEVER been known for in the past. Many of us have reported for years that he has Parkinson's and this is now admitted (he was diagnosed in 1994). In addition, he has been paralyzed since the fall of 2011 and can no longer walk. The MET is working with engineers on a podium that would go up and down and allow him into the pit without having to get out of his wheelchair.

It's about time everyone knew the truth but it's also great news to have this great conductor back. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
