I'm just wondering why, of my two long-term "relationships" with escorts, they both have exquisite table manners and are generally more than presentable, even to people like my mother, bless her departed soul.

Is this just a trend, or do escorts train in this? My own table manners are good, but sometimes pale in comparison. And I refuse to eat bacon with a knife and fork.

Well, we do have to perform well in just about any situation including dinner. Would you really want to take some one to an expensive dinner and have them sitting with their elbows on the table?

And for the record, it is less proper to eat what is considered a finger food with a knife and fork. One of my pet peeves is going out and watching other people cut steak, switch the fork to their other hand and flip it and insert into the maw. Then start the process all over again.

This coming from the man who says: "YOUSE gonna eat dat? No, yes, I don't know? Dis ain't rocket science, cowboy!"

You know how much longer it takes to eat a strip of bacon with a knife and fork than with your hand? Think about it. It's a great way to slow down the eating process and prolong the meal.

Wouldn't bother me. Not nearly as bad as chewing with their mouth open or talking with food in their mouth.

That's the usual American style. Europeans are more likely to keep the fork in the same hand. What do Canadians do?

Either are correct here, the more proper is to not switch hands or flip the fork. Less chance of dropping or flicking your food.

I'm left-handed....I cut steak with the fork in my left hand and knife in my right (so I can quickly get the piece right into my mouth, I guess)....does that make me oh-so-continental or is it just because I'm left-handed?....(never thought about this much)

Gallahad: do your two guys really use a knife-and-fork for bacon?.....or was it Canadian bacon??!!

Piling mashed potatoes on the back of one’s fork and then squeezing peas into the potatoes is perfectly acceptable and SOP in the U.K., Australia and New Zealand. It is NOT perfectly acceptable and SOP in the U.S. Table manners differ widely from country to country and culture to culture. The fork switching thing is strictly American where it is considered good manners. In India one eats with the fingers of the right hand with the left hand resting in the lap. The left hand MUST NEVER touch the table or a fellow dinner. The list of interesting and different cultural table manners could go on forever.

i don't, but a friend of mine always eats his sandwich with knife-and-fork. Fascinating way to have a burger or, one would suppose, a BLT.

An acquaintance of mine and I were at dinner one night at nice restaurant (Como Inn in Chicago). He ordered lamb or pork chops, and just picked them up and ate them.

My mortification was lost on him.

Exactly. My own right hand does all the honorable things—such as signing checks to evangelists, covering my heart during the Pledge of Allegiance, and jerking off. My left hand gets the dirty jobs like playing with my nipples and ass, and flipping off people on welfare.

Now, Max - not EVERYONE on Welfare doesn't deserve Welfare. Only most of them, including the Octomom plus four, or however many that bitch [as in dog] has had in her litters.

I use both hands on my nipples. So does that mean that my left nipple is bad/dirty while my right is clean/good???

And to continue with potatoes, cutting a potato with a knife at the table is quite rude in Germany.

So, you're just supposed to swallow a baked potato whole like a reticulated python?? LOL

In Spain, dessert is often just fresh fruit. It is served to you on a small plate, and you must never touch the fruit with your hands. Yes, Spaniards manage to eat apples, oranges, and bananas using only a knife and fork. I refused to follow protocol and would either order a "real" dessert (like una bomba). While dining with a Spanish friend, I asked what would happen if I picked up the banana and ate it like a chimpanzee. He couldn't stop laughing.

I had a steak last night, and, for the first time EVER, I watched how I ate it (I never thought that this forum would lead me here). I have no idea what the proper protocol was or is, but what I did made perfect sense to me. When I needed to cut the meat, I used my right hand for the knife and the left for the fork (to hold the meat in place). Then, when I needed to get the cut piece into my mouth, I put the fork in my right hand (yes, I'm right handed) and moved the already speared piece into my mouth. This didn't seem like manners or rocket science. It was just common sense. I assume that left handed people would do just the opposite. And you know what? If manners and efficiency part company, give me efficiency every time. You want to talk about inappropriate?? Let's talk about the way "some" people dress when going to a fancy restaurant.
