Hire an attorney.

Contact rentboy (they can suspend his account at the very least).

Write him a bad review (everywhere).

Do not acknowledge, respond or reply to threats.

Dear Carpinelli

I have been in your shoes, although not a video. A scum bag who was a member of this community had gathered damming documents which included my home address and full name, called me after an outing using my whole name and knew I was married. It was the biggest panic of my life. I shutdown just about everything, except my phone. I even got a new computer. I treated like I had a stollen credit card and just trashed everything else. Fortunately I was a bit behind the times on phones and had other than numbers and call times no other information there. His threats were a little less demanding. I was going to be required to hire a couple of people, in addition to writing positive reviews and continuing to hire him. I left this comminty as well and gave up my handle. Bart was not my original handle. It was a very lucky day for me because the scum bag never followed through but I should have contacted Daddy immediately for help and advice. Take his advice and get yourself appropriate help. Be prepared to have the video uploaded though. Also be sure to forward the information to Daddy regarding who the scum bag is. I did not at the time, I felt extremely violated. For months I kept expecting a letter to show up at home or a phone call. Finally the day came when he annouced his retirement from the business and I was extremely fortunate.

The OP and Bart's experiences are chilling to say the least.

The advice to seek out a lawyer is wise. You don't want to expose yourself further by dealing with guy without first getting that advice. Other than a video, do you feel he knows many details about you (i.e. address, actual name, etc)? Just because he has a video (if he in fact does) doesn't mean that anyone could necessarily tell it was you. Of course you can't necessary assume that is the case but he may be bluffing. Extortion is pretty serious matter and hopefully there is a way to deal with this guy effectively with minimal risk to you. Do let us know how this goes for you.

A little over a dozen years ago, a guy I first hired in Europe and later here in the US (he was from our neighbor to the north), discovered my full identity and work position. He wrote me an e-mail to threaten me with exposure if I did not come up with an enormous amount of cash (exposure would have ruined my career for good). I could not hire a lawyer as this would have caused more problems but I suspended the e-mail account he knew, got rid of the phone numbers he was aware of, and in a way re-created my life on the internet. phone, and communication. I never ever hired him in the cities where I worked, just in the general "area", and he never had my home address.

I also, like Bart, "disappeared" from here for quite a while, as he was occasionally a contributor here. He was supposedly writing a lurid account of his life as an escort naming names and providing documentation to prove his allegations. For me, he had somehow gotten a hold on my credit cards (a wallet stupidly laying around after an encounter while I showered, as we often traveled for a few days together??), and my business card. I lived in dread of his publishing that book, but he (and the book) simply disappeared. Sadly, I discovered he died of AIDS and the threats against me (and other clients) were his way of fighting back (and thank God, never had unprotected sex with him).

I protect my anonymity and respect that others do the same for both professional and personal reasons and I always react negatively to attempts to threaten or force anothger person to "come out". I find this hypocritcal and nasty. I first joined this bard in the very early 90's specifically because it was - for the most part - anonymous.

Order a gross from him at wholesale for presents to friends and families, or, retain counsel at your earliest convenience and instruct him to deal with the matter forthwith, any dialogue pertinent to the matter to be between the rentboy and your attorney, not the rentboy and you. If you, yourself, continue a dialogue with the rentboy you will only encourage him to "go for the gold". As with bigvalboy, I have no sympathy for a blackmailer: in the "old days", he would have been treading water in a mine shaft deep in the woods after his first threat. . .

"Escorting" is a business, and, sadly, the business attracts an inordinate number of desperate "vendors" with few principles, and, more like or not, the few principles they do possess are subject to question. And, indeed, by the very nature of the "hire" there is no "morality" to the thing. As a matter of prudent "policy", with only two or three exceptions in thirty years, I have never opened the door to my private life to a "working boy".

Hire an attorney this afternoon and then, upon his/her advice, file charges with the police. Do NOTHING else.

Things like this happen, due to the nature of the business. The key thing to remember is do not panic, and do not do anything rash.

Lawyers are used to dealing with the less-than-savory side of human nature, just like doctors have to deal with shit every once in a while. Find one and explain what has happened. Your activity is a misdemeanor. Extortion is a bit more serious—and it will probably be a sad day in court for an escort who has to explain to an already unsympathetic judge why he's now threatening people.

I suppose it depends to some extent on the nature of the video. If it is just going to be embarrassing, you might just suck it up, laugh in his face and tell him to go to hell. If it is something that could seriously damage your life, then definitely consult a lawyer. Do not attempt to negotiate with the escort, because you can't get an enforceable agreement, and you obviously can't trust him to stick to it. Just getting the video back is useless, because he has probably made multiple copies for future use.
