When a client does a 180º turn

Okay, I'll admit I'm not the most trusting of people when it comes to escorting—but I am trying to learn not to dismiss people out of hand.

Client emails and wants to get together.

Great—send him off an email with general info and rates, etc.

Client gets right back to me and tells me what he's looking for, and wants to see a face pic.

Explain that I don't send them, will meet first if that works—if not, no prob and I understand.

Wants me to describe myself, so I do. Reiterates that he's looking for ____ and ____.

I describe myself and tell him to let me know if that works.

This is where the problem starts: he writes back and adjusts my rate and time by a significant margin, essentially giving himself a 50% off sale on my time.

I'm not sure I understand what he's saying, so I ask him to clarify. He does, repeating what I thought he said the first time.

I politely decline and say that doesn't work for me, thanks for the interest and good luck with your searching. (And yes Juan, I thought of you as I was typing it).

So then he starts to dicker with me—trying to use my "not a clockwatcher" phrase as justification for "well, you should be here anyway for this time since you said that's what you do." And of course he starts in on the whole face pic thing again.

I decline again and basically say: sorry it didn't work out.

So now after telling me he's got to think about whether my rate is worth it, he's suddenly agreeing to see me at my original rate and telling me how hot I am and trying to figure out 20 ways to Sunday to get me to come over.

Does anyone else have this kind of interaction with clients? Of course now I don't want to see him because he seems both cheap AND odd, and I can no longer tell if he's even legit or just a waste of time.

This guy sounds like trouble. "Not a clockwatcher" doesn't constitute "I will accept a lowball rate and spend the entire day with you." I would suggest putting something in your ad about "no psychos, please" but that would work as well as using candles to eradicate a moth infestation.

Well, and if he had said "can you stay a little extra so I don't feel rushed," that would have been one thing. But he was like: "I'm going to pay you a big chunk LESS, while you stay 1.5 times LONGER." That's why I sent him the email back saying, "do I understand you correctly?"

Perhaps the one time where asking for the money upfront is appropriate?

It sounds like he has never hired before. If it were me I would have explained that not clock watching means if we run over a little that is fine but it is shouldn't be taken for granted that I will stay an extra hour.

You're right though, he does sound cheap and likely a flake. I feel like even if he did show up he would try to milk the time and short you in the end.

Actually I was thinking the opposite—he sounds like he's hired before and is a cheapskate who has develop a routine. I've run into people like that before, where they claim nervousness and poor-mouth you, and then later you hear from your escort friend: "oh yeah, he did the exact same thing to me."

Now, let's take it easy there; I don't want to be used as the poster child for the Anti-Lowballing crusade... =)

On second thought... What of it! Bring it on!

I totally disagree here. This is the one time when I would determine we are not a very good match. I love to work with people who are excited to see me; people that already have a good energy about the meet and with whom I can work to build a special intimacy based on trust. If someone is coming to see me with a chip on his shoulder, is someone is thinking "You better be worth this much money!" I think that would be a very bad place from which to start. I don't do my work to prove things to anyone, I go to work to have a genuine, satisfying and exciting interaction with another human being who is looking for the same.

(Also, a client like this will agree to the appointment but more often than not will look for a cheaper escort and will cancel last minute. {Or won't cancel and won't show up.])

Who needs all this?

Nope, you're probably right, rereading your post it does sound like he has done this before.

Hope you don't mind a response from the client's point-of-view.

I think your feelings that he is cheap and odd could very well be accurate. But, I'd be more concerned that's he's not legit and just wasting your time.

I'm very careful to only hire well-reviewed and established escorts. I have NEVER tried to get them to lower their price. Yes, I do expect a multi-hour discount. But I've never asked for a discount off their advertised rates.

This guy sounds like a flake and I think you're better off not getting involved.

In the words of my mother, he is being ridiculous. Like OneFinger, I think multi-hour discounts are not out of the question, but I would not expect a multi-hour rate to be less than the stated one hour rate. I suppose you could suggest using only part of your body in exchange for the reduced rate. Maybe fuck him with your nose or your big toe.
