For those of you who are anglophiles and love British theater, I'm not sure if we've covered this topic before, but here goes.

Every season, the National Theater in London offers "live" simulcasts of its current productions for viewing in local cinemas around the world.

Go to the website for more info and cinema locations in your area:

http://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/45462/home/national-theatre-live-homepage.html

Note: The USA simulcasts are a one-day lag due to time zone differences, but well worth seeing. Some productions are brilliant, for example, the Frankenstein production was thrilling, and One Man Two Guvnors was truly enjoyable. Some productions require a bit of research and I suggest checking the reviews in the local UK papers before you make a decision.

It's an easy and inexpensive way to enjoy great theater, without the expense of a RT ticket to London.

I went to the NT Live screening of She Stoops To Conquer yesterday evening and enjoyed it very much. A fun production and well worth seeing, that is, if you like 18th Century Oliver Goldsmith comedic plays but this NT production has been a sellout in London this season. The audience, and I, loved it.

On the NT Live encore schedule is Frankenstein, a riveting new production of the Mary Shelly classic that was a sold out success at the NT this past season, with two wonderful British actors, Benedict Cumberbatch (a very sexy Sherlock holmes in the new BBC TV series) and Jonny Lee Miller (also, TV star from the US TV production of Eli Stone). They swtich roles and in one production Jonny plays the monster and Ben the Doctor, and vice-versa. check the NT website for screening locations and more info.

In case you missed this in the other thread, and you don't want to pay Broadway prices to see this show, there is a one day chance to see One Man, Two Guvnors on the NT Live broadcast- albeit not live:

One Man, Two Guvnors

Part of National Theatre Live

Sun, May 20, 2012 at 11am (Encore)

By Richard Bean

Based on The Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni with songs by Grant Olding

Directed by Nicholas Hytner

“One of the funniest productions in the National Theatre’s history” —The Guardian

One Man, Two Guvnors is Richard Bean’s “howlingly funny” (The Independent, UK) reworking of the commedia dell’arte classic The Servant of Two Masters, directed by Nicholas Hytner. Fired from his band, Francis (James Corden) finds work as a bodyguard for small-time East End hood Roscoe. But Roscoe is really Roscoe’s sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother, who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley. To complicate matters, Francis takes a second job with—guess who?—Stanley, who is in hiding and waiting to be re-united with Rachel. Comedic mayhem ensues as Francis tries to keep his two guvnors apart.

BAM Rose Cinemas

2hrs 40min with intermission
