Hey guys. So I just booked a trip to Europe in March and plan on spending some alone time in Barcelona. I flipped through a bunch of the threads on the forum, but I just had a few questions for anyone that has recently been there. Any help would really be appreciated, especially since its my first time outside North America.

I was planning on spending a couple of days at Sauna Thermas, and was wondering what the best times and days were to go? Also, I feel a lot more comfortable in a hotel setting, I was wondering what the current going rate would be to bring a guy from there to my hotel. I don't want to be cheap, but I don't want to get ripped off either.

I was looking to see if there are any hustler bars and strip clubs in bcn, and when is a good time to visit. Also, are there any good gay nightclubs and bars in the city? I'm in my late twenties, and I typically like a similar crowd, nothing fancy. Any other tourism recommendations would also be really appreciated. Thanks guys!

Hi dansjando,

Most of my information regarding Barcelona has already been posted in the various threads you have probably already read. Anyway, I will give you a quick summary. I have been to Barcelona twice (once in May 2010 and then again in August 2011).

1. Barcelona is a fantastic city to visit as a tourist. Entirely too many sights to see to mention all of them here. I particularly enjoyed the Sagrada Familia church and also the gothic old part of town. Any tourism website or tour book will give you all the information you need.

2. Termas is the only sauna I know of there with working guys. Plenty to choose from. I don't know if one day is better than others.....they all seem to be the same to me. Busiest time seems to be from 5:00pm to 10:00pm. This is when the most rentboys are there. However, there are smaller amounts of guys available earlier and later as well.

3. I have never picked up a guy from the sauna and taken him to the hotel in Barcelona as far as I recall. I have done this in Madrid however and the going rate seems to be 100Euros for about one hour but it may depend on the guy.

4. I am not aware of any hustler bars in Barcelona. There is one in Madrid however. I have not really done the bar scene in Barcelona so I cannot advise you on that. I did go to one "leather bar" there (whose name I do not remember). Seemed nice with many levels but was basically empty and there was zero going on. Be aware that many of the gay clubs have "backrooms" or "darkrooms" where alot of action takes place between patrons. Seems to be the case in much of Europe that these backrooms be kept pitch black......literally. Once you are in there you cannot see anything and you have no idea who you are touching or who is touching you. I actually find it very creepy and have zero interest in having totally anonymous sex with someone one cannot see. I don't get the attraction of this.....but it seems to be a pretty popular way for gay Europeans to hook-up. To each his own I guess.

Have fun!!

EZE is right on with all of his comments. I was there twice last year. My comments:

1. Everthing, if you didn't already know, (mealtimes, theatre, bars, etc.) is late in Spain. Except the Sauna which runs out of steam about 10.

2. I like the Gothic Quarter best, at all hours.

3. If you like architecture, Gaudi is everywhere.

4. For a diversion, you might like to go out to the Arts Hotel which is on the sea and very pretty.

5. 100 euros sounds about right to bring a guy back to the hotel, and you will get plenty of takers given your age, especially if you throw in dinner.

6. There are lots of hot listings on GayRomeo to keep you occupied.

Have fun!

Never heard of morbototal, but the site looks promising.

Well, quite often, the same guys advertise on both. Occassionally there is a guy that only advertises on one or the other. There is another site called "escupido". I personally find most of the guys on that site inferior.....but occassionally there might be something decent there.

Just a few more thoughts, Dans ...

1. Termas is in a sort of a residential neighborhood (safe) about a 15 minute cab ride from centro. Cabs are plentiful. Do you know the sauna "protocol"? If not, p.m. me or EZE and look at the Brazilian Sauna guide on this site.

On reflection, 100 euros, out of the sauna, shoukl get you a whole evening or overnight in off-season. If you just want an hour in your hotel, I would say 60 - 80.

2. The bars, discos are in Eixample, next to the Gothic Quarter. I didn't go last year, although I have been. They don't really get going until well after midnight.

3. Sagrada Familia... yes, go... a cathedral in progress. Wait in a long line (maybe not so bad in March) and pay an exhorbitant admission fee.

If you have any feelings of agraphobia, do not take the elevator to the top! Or, observe the whole thing from a sidewalk cafe. Go to the Cathedral in Gothic Quarter.

Your first time out of N. America? You will have fun! Where else are you going?

Thanks! Lonely planet barcelona is an app on my phone now, lol. I'll definitely write back with my exploits!

You are quite welcome. Ever since I used this site and information for my first trip to Brazil in 2002, I've responded when I thought I could

assist future travelers to various and sundry places. I was to have gone to Barcelona in 2010; unfortunately after my Italian portion ended,

I was ill and had to cancel my Barcelona trek-- much to my chagrin.

Hope to go for a shorter time later this year! You would have traveled there; your input afterwards will be quite helpful to those of us with

future travel plans.

I was just in Barcelona and will be there just after you unfortunately or I would suggest that we get together. I met a few great escorts there but they didn't advertise on the sites at all, maybe more of what you were looking for but they were in two different bars that I would never have pegged as good for working. I wish I had their info for you but my phone was damaged in my luggage on the return.

All the best luck!
