Naked Boys Singing, for 13 years a staple of sorts in the New York theater scene, is closing. Some 291,000 people have seen 71 different performers take it all off to sing for their supper. The show

raised $256,963 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Having seen it, it was just a mildly entertaining show, although the number "beat your meat' does tend to stick in the mind.

Now, without looking, who can name the two porn stars who were in the cast?

I saw the original production out in LA years ago. It was in a little nowhere theatre and IMHO was a far better show than the one that made it to NYC, which I also saw. I thought it had a bit more edge to it. But the NYC show is/was a lot of fun in its own way. I'm sorry to see it closing. Hope Kevin is right that it is morphing.

I saw the original LA production too and sat in the front row. The actors seemed VERY close at the time and my memory was that I was staring at one of the performer's, um..... mid-section inches away. Perhaps it's just wishful thinking at this point. It did seem more of a show for a gay audience at the time. When I saw it several years later in NY it had definitely entered the "bachelorette" category and was not so much fun. Still seeing naked guys onstage is always worthwhile and if they can sing so much the better.

Is it back by popular demand, or was the closing just a marketing gimmick? Either way, Naked Boys Singing opens up again on March 22d, at the Kirk Theater on W. 42d St, part of Theater Row.

Tickets are $71.25, a bit high for that location.

Yeah, that's what I posted earlier. The former producer sold the NYC rights to another group who had been putting it on elsewhere for years.
