At the end of 2010, it was asked

Economists are calculating their statistics as the year comes to an end, so I thought I'd do an informal survey of escorts here. How would you characterize your business in the past year? How did it compare to 2009? What has been your benchmark most profitable year in the business? Trend watchers would like to know.

To kick it off again, 2011 saw an increase of just over 6% from 2010 (my previous best year by far). Six of my best ten months ever were in 2011, and the year was somewhat more level on a monthly basis than previous years. I hope this bodes well for the economy and us all.

I definitely would love to meet Kevin as he seems like a great guy and very professional, plus incredibly hot. Very happy to hear that business is up and I do hope it is a good indication for the economy in general.

I'm curious as to a few things. First, what do you attribute that increase to (beside the obvious)? Did you change your marketing/advertising strategy in any significant way? Traveling the same, more or less? More repeat business? Am I correct that you are looking at total dollar spent for your services and not number of clients? Is the number of clients up or down, and if down are they spending more time so more income per encounter? What about the average money received per encounter/client, same, up or down from previous year? Did you maintain your rate structure or change it at all? I'm just curious as to a bit more details.

No change in strategy—same basic ad on M4RN. I don't currently travel, but I may explore doing a "tour" every so often during 2012 to see what happens. I've ramped up to full time from a trickle in the past three months—Oct and Nov were consistent and busy, the first two weeks of December SUCKED (reference my post on Mikey's thread about staying home and wanking it), and the last two weeks were among the best I've ever had. About the same percentage of repeats as before, say 40%—and 70/30 split of locals to tourists. Lots and lots of bottoms. I've only bottomed for 2 clients in three months. Less than 5 clients whom I wouldn't see again. On average, I'm seeing between 1-2 clients per day.

I made no significant change in my marketing, and I don't think a 6% swing indicates any breakthrough other than normal fluctuation, especially given that we're talking only one data point (one escort). 2012 may well be up or down 25% due to randomness and variables beyond my control, beyond that I'd have to analyze my game.

Traveling the same, more or less?

I made four trips in 2011 (three to DC and one to Toronto) vs. only one (DC) in 2010. That's well down from years past, though. From a business perspective, it just doesn't pay to be away from NYC.

Am I correct that you are looking at total dollar spent for your services and not number of clients?

Yes.

Is the number of clients up or down, and if down are they spending more time so more income per encounter? What about the average money received per encounter/client, same, up or down from previous year?

2011's client pool was just under 10% larger than that of 2010. Total number of bookings grew just over 10%. Revenue per client and revenue per booking dropped three and four percent, respectively, suggesting a more diversified client base and fewer out-of-town (i.e. more expensive) bookings.

Did you maintain your rate structure or change it at all?

No change to my rates.

I'm just curious as to a bit more details.

Thanks for asking.

I'll throw in my experience for what it's worth. I was coming out of hiatus in late 2010 so don't have a year prior to compare things to, so hard to know what to make of where the year ended up. Prior to that I had escorted up to about 2005 so only have that experience to draw from.

Overall I was happy with the amount of business I received. There were a few patches of very slow, including early December as others have mentioned. I figured people were budgeting for gifts, and sure enough things picked up later in the month. But there were also stretches that were almost too busy to manage. So overall it evened out to what I'd consider a good overall pace.

I'm definitely noticing more multi-hour appointments and repeats than either earlier in the year or pre-2005. There are a few great guys I've been seeing on a regular basis who are a real pleasure to spend time with and I'm happy to see them each time. I feel really lucky I like all the guys I see, which was not always the case pre-2005. I don't know if this relates to changes in the overall escort market or is just related to my settling back into the market and getting re-established. Has the world changed or is it just me?

Going to the Palm Springs weekend was a real turning point for me this year. I got to meet a great set of guys, some of whom became clients later. I also got to network with other escorts, which I'd never done before. The more seasoned ones have given me great advice (and taught me skills!) and also shown me how the pros do it. It also gave me a big boost of confidence that there was a niche market for me.

I'll keep experimenting with touring. I had some very enjoyable trips this year but whether they were good business ventures is debatable. I am eternally grateful to two forum members in NY who made that trip possible and pencil out - and fun as all hell to boot. But I realized planning successful touring requires careful strategy, and it always has to be compared with the prospects of staying home. I have a feeling the market for travel in 2011 was dicey for other escorts too, based on threads I've read here over the year. I'm going to continue to listen to others who have been successful with travel and fine tune that over the next year.

And for me too, most if not all of the clients have been bottoms. I love to top so that's just fine with me, and have even thought of changing my designation in my listings to top. But pre-2005 it was much more varied. I'm not sure if that is a change to the market, or just something that comes with my market niche since I'm on the older side.

Overall I'm optimistic for the coming year. Here in the Bay Area employment is rebounding, driven by the tech sector in Silicon Valley and radiating into other sectors and areas from there. From that respect SF is a good base to be in. Hopefully this will support a stronger recovery in other parts of the country too.

That niche market for you Nate would be clients who have a brain and love spending time with a truly remarkable guy. Mature, sexy as all hell, caring and concerned for your client. Oh, and great in bed too.

That is your niche Nate. You fill it well.

And I cannot wait to walk into the DC luncheon with you by my side. Two weeks and counting.

Exactly Lee. Nate is an unfound treasure in the escort world. An experience with Nate is like a combination of first time vanilla and the wildest ride from a true sexual pro you can imagine. Your niche is solid and will continue to grow because of who you are and the esteem guys like us place you in

Have a great 2012

I feel it just all depends on who you are and where you're at. There's so many variables that go into what can make a year/person successful or not.

Although I made a thread earlier about travel being risky...this year I've traveled more than I ever did in my lifetime. I've traveled 38% (or 19 states) of the United States in 1 year and making connections with people in each has made that possible. Not every trip was successful, but most were and in the end it fared better than staying home; plus I enjoy a change of scenery in my personal life.

If it were up to me, I'd be traveling even if I wasn't escorting and even if I weren't; I'd find a way to journal for a travel magazine

And for me too, most if not all of the clients have been bottoms.

That too can be city dependent. There are cities I know of that are have more tops than others. I remember once I went someplace, and although I met several clients, they were ALL tops but mentioned wanting to be versatile. I'm vers/top, but we made it work ;) But...it's true, bottoms rule, tops drool (which isn't always a bad thing)

I agree with what joeybryant said:

2011 wasn't better for me than 2010. i did well but AMAZING. escorts do feel the ripple effect good or bad but it's delayed.
