Over the last weekend I tried to log onto the Chelsea Guys agency web site. I found out they permanently closed down. Anyone know what happened? I know that Maximum pretty much blew them away in terms of the guys they had and their amazing customer service. I guess that leaves Maximum as our only full scale/full service agency here in Manhattan. I had no idea times got to be so tough for Chelsea that they would have to shut down. The last time I used them it took 3 messages and two business days for my call to be returned by a very rude person (Rodrigo?) who made me feel it was a burden for him to make the appointment and then I wasn't so keen about the guy who showed up (who happened to work for Maximum years before but I think aged out of that agency so Chelsea picked him up). Anyway, somebody know the scoop on why they closed?

An escort from Europe who occasionally came to the US and worked both through ads on Rentboy and through them discovered they were not operating already back in October. He kept calling and calling to let them know he was in NYC but no one answered. I agree that they had a totally different sort of escorts from those at MAXIMUM, but to be honest, neither place had a lot of guys working for them at any time.

I ttried to contact directly one guy who advertised through them for the last 2 or 3 years, and also had no response. So we in NYC are left with Maximum, and perhaps CAMPUS though the guys at Campus are way too young for my personal taste.

I guess some working guys would rather pocket the whole fee themselves and become freelancers instead. I noticed a lot of their guys were not exclusives to the agency and had ads elsewhere as well...

Maximum caused their demise? I doubt it they just didn't have the same "in demand" guys that Maxie usually does for those who like to or have to use an Agency in NYC!

As was said most of their Stable Advertised elsewhere anyways. As with most Working Guys especially "Newbies" recruited from Clubs... they get their Exprience working for an AGENCY at least in NYC and then go Freelance and "cut out the middle man" and do better Financially in the long run.

I'd say that there's a good chance that you've answered your own question. I certainly wouldn't be inclined to use them again after an experience like that. (Of course, your experience may reflect that they were already under stress for other reasons.)

Also remember that Maximum has closed temporarily several times in the past few years. I'm sure it's not an easy business!

This morning I had been thinking about Chelsea Guys after a poster on the "Rocked Your Boat" thread suggested a thread devoted to all-time greats. Three of my choices would have been from Chelsea Guys -- Patrick (later Dean), Luke and Brad. But that was about ten years ago, and since then Chelsea's stable really declined.

I'm curious: who was the escort from Europe, as mentioned above, who was recently here and tried to get in touch with Chelsea?

Incidentally, if there were a "best ever" thread I'd add three or four to the three mentioned above: Raul Manzo, David-sf and Ross, now at Maximum, which, as many note, outclassed and outclasses Chelsea guys in all departments. I'd also include a masseur, Kevin/NYMuscle Massage. And if I could remember the name of an escort from London who used to travel here with his partner (their website was "2Guys/1 World"), I'd include him, too.

Their web site is still up so I don't know what this thread means. Healthy competition is always good for business, and we at Maximum have never had anything bad to say about Chelsea Guys. While people want to say we are in direct competition, I think the reality is that we are two very different agencies that operate in different ways. I hope for their sake that they are still in business and will withstand the hard finacial times.

In regard to this comment, we never "closed" with the intention of never reopening. Yes we had some difficultites that needed to be resolved, and we chose to remove our site while those things were worked out.

Stephen, I meant no criticism by that remark - just brought it up as sign of what I said - it must be a difficult business.

Hey Lanky,

I'm pretty sure Thomas Olivier is the London-based escort to whom you are referring: http://daddysreviews.com/cruise/2008-06-10/thomas_olivier_london. I agree with you that Thomas is/was one of the "best ever!"
