Is a Picture Worth 1000 Words?

While doing my weekly browsing thru Rentboy ads today, I realized that an escorts pic is really worth 1000 words, and is often the catalyst for a "make it or break it" hiring.

 

Some of the pics posted are often intimidating, scary, threatening, off-putting. All things condisered, I look at facial expression, setting/background, pose, theme, etc.

 

While I realize that diff people like different things, I would be cautious or leary to hire an escort that represents himself as a "gangsta or thug". Also I have noticed in Daddys reviews and threads that often there is not alot on Black escorts, and was wondering if this had to do with how the escort "presents" himself in his ad ? (PLEASE dont turn this into a racial thing) .

 

I look for specific things when I view pics in order to make my selections. For me, its more about the visual than the written. Was wondering how other clients approach this?

For me it's simple: If the pics don't catch my eye, I'm never going to get to the written part. How an escort expresses himself is important to me, but the pics are what lead me to do the reading.

The pictures are what attract my attention initially; if they don't attract me, I seldom read the ad. But if the pictures attract me, then the text has to give me sense of someone I will be comfortable with. When I hire, I prefer to start the sesison by chatting for a few minutes and getting comfortable with the person, and the more we have in common, the easier that is, as a rule.

 

The 'thug' or 'gangsta' persona is not one that attracts me, and I regret the fact that most black escorts in my area tend to advertise that way (even tho I know that for some it is an act). My regular guy for several years was a black college jock-type, educated and articulate.

It is usually the pics that determine my 'short list' and the written ad helps me determine who reviews I read before hiring.

It's a combination for me; I guess the pictures catch my eye. Then the ad needs to reel me in.

 

ITA about the gangsta/thug ads. There are several escorts that I think are very hot from their photos, but their ads are in "gangsta" talk. I won't even contact anyone like that. I would fear for my personal safety the whole time.

I'm going to just jump in here on this one. I do not have a soft or "cushy" look. I, in fact, still look military and pretty rough around the edges. I like that look on myself and others. I would not say I look gangsta, but certain rough. My reviews clearly outline otherwise. So, I think you can have that edgy look, its whats brought to the table that speaks volumes for who you are inside. I, just a few months ago, had an even egdier< (is that a word?) look if those who have met/worked with me may remember and I had some of the highest reviews in that time than even now. I have since decided to go with a light (edged up) beard due to what I felt was a very aggressive look.

I guess what I am saying is I have met some and am one of "those guys" and I suppose if based on a look alone we'd be work/client-less, but there have been many men who wanted to know whats inside and the story that has made the "badass" I think inside everyone is a molten cuddle monster, but you gentleman are the ones who determine whom, how, and when. I suppose it may just take proving grounds or word of mouth... Either way, you cant judge a book by its cover.

I applaud Dane for his pictures as I like to see the whole body in the photos. Not just a little of the chest, ass or cock. I want to now how it looks when all the parts are combined. One thing I wish all escorts would include in the text is the actual hours they work. The Rentboy hour category (4 hour lumps) is too vague. I also wish they would include what type of advance notice they require. 10 minutes or 2 hours??

Thank you Travis. To tell you the truth "still a newbie here, honestly" but those blocks are paid attention to as much as any other block of info... not that much. If the gent you want to hire is not in good comms... then move on, thats just how it should go. If you are not on the clock, dont respond, if so, be on the ball. I am on tour right now and still up at this hour and will be up for a quite a bit more. I think any man can be ready in a reasonable time frame that shouldnt require days or weeks on end, unless over seas.. then, I get it.

Dane, in the absence of other information (such as reviews), we have to make hiring decisions on the basis of the pictures and the text that escorts provide for us. Yes, the real and entire person may be different from that public presentation, but I don't think you can ask us to assume that. Some escorts intend to project a certain rough or gangsta persona - and there are clients who are attracted to that.

When I make a hiring decision, it's not about the worth of that person - it's a judgment as to whether I will likely have a good time with that person. One thing I have learned over the years is that not everyone gets along with everyone else - and that's ok. I've known some really good people whose personalities just didn't mesh with mine. we can respect each other and work together but would never be friends. I've met escorts who were really great guys but sexually we didn't mesh.

I have to admit that the picture is the first avenue of interest, followed by THEIR descriptions, then (HOPEFULLY) accurate reviews. However, I personally feel talking to the guys is essential to determine if it is a correct fit.

 

For example, I could lust after Dane's photos, react positively to his descriptions, study his reviews--all 3 of these criteria I have done with many hot flashes--but it was talking to this HOT gentleman that made the decision a go (even though our schedules keep screwing things up).

 

Basically, for me, a successful meeting takes a lot of work on both sides.

I would never hire unless I saw a picture first. I can understand the need for some escorts to be discreet but I would need to see a picture even if it is via e mail. I just would not risk a meeting otherwise.
