I have a question. I have been seeing an escort for a while...we have a very warm, friendly relationship in addition to the sex. I just called him to set up our next meeting and he informed me that his rates have gone up. I have no problem with him raising his rates...but shouldn't his new, higher rates be for new clients only while keeping his long time regulars at the same price? Just wondering what the opinion was out there.

There is no escort rule book. He should charge whatever and whomever he wants. Whether or not it makes good business sense is another matter.

This has been discussed here before, and opinions vary. If you see an escort & discover that he is charging you more than his 'regular' clients, are you okay with that? Some will argue that you should pay the same price for the same service. Others will feel that they deserve a discount for loyalty.

I don't see that there is a 'right' answer.

I personally think that rates should be the same for all. Who is to know if a new client becomes a regular or vice versa. A good escort knows of other ways to reward a client for loyalty other than reduced rates. If an escort starts bouncing their rates all over the place, red flags will start going up about consistency, etc. and I don't believe this reputation is worth a few bucks.

I believe that escorting is a business is like any other. I don't expect my local restuarant or store that I frequent regularly to , keep prices the same just for me. The local bar I go to all the time at happy hour just raised there prices, I certainly don't expect him to give me a special price, that would be obsurd. Escort costs go up like everyone elses. there rent, daily living cost, gas, food, clothes etc. I would expect them to cover those cost like everyone else does. I raise my fees and costs and pass them onto clients. If I did not I would not be in business for long. Ok, I am ready for an ear full from all of you...many here will disagree...ok let's have it, I am sitting down now. lol

He probably could have handled it a little better, but regulars can't expect to pay the same price forever. On the other hand, there is always the option of you finding a new guy who charges less and becoming a regular of his. If the previous escort ever contacts you, a simple "I've moved on" would suffice.

I probably would have handled it in a different way. On that phone call, I might have said that I was planning on raising my rates so that this will be the last time at this price. This repsects the client at the same time it informs him of the change. Hiring escorts certainly is a possibly dangerous situation for both the client and the escort. We all know of stories of violence and theivery and deception. Therefore, both the client and the escort should be respectful of known safe and harmonious relationships, so a compromise on charge is reasonable. On the other hand, for me and most people I think, there may be more satisfactory encounters but there are no encounters more exciting than that first one.

Years ago when I had to raise the rates at Maximum to be comensurate with the other agencies in town we gave our regular clients about a months notice, and after we did the increase we gave them one or two appointments at the old rate. Informing them ahead of time and offering the old rate seemed to go over well.

This situation is where the guys who like only "New and Different" Working Guy Experiences are ahead of the game!

You've just been hit with the Reality it is just Biz and some Working Guys don't believe in the Golden Goose (Reg Client) Theory! The "Warm Friendly Relationship" apparently has a Price that's going up!

I myself would just tell him HE no longer fits in my Budget and Move On in a "Warm and Friendly" way of course!

I agree with those who believe that an escort has the right to charge anything he believes the traffic will bear. If he chooses to raise his rates on his regulars he runs the chance of losing some of them but that is certainly his call. The guys I have seen on a regular basis over a period of time have NEVER increased their rates on me. In the end I think that is the smartest way to go BUT to each his own.

I've been doing this in earnest for only 18 months or so. But I have seen one guy four times. And his rates are part of the reason. It would have been probably two times if he were one of the $250 guys.

Why not just be up front, and tell him how you feel. Like you said, you've had a comfortable relationship with this escort. I'm sure he'd understand. Just put the ball in his court and see what happens. In saying that, I do agree with the idea that nothing stays the same forever. If that were the case, I would not be so stressed when I went to purchase gas, pay my insurance premium, or any other bill. The reality is, unless you're headed to a going out of business sale not many things go down in price.

As clients, why would we feel entitled to never changing prices? The escorts costs to provide services to us change - the gym membership, the gas prices to see us (or rent for the place to welcome us,) the hair stylist, the fetish clothing - so why should the transaction be less profitable for him?

Sorry, I don't understand the bruised ego here.

Good points. I think it's easy, however, to start to feel that that you have a 'special' relationship with a regular escort with whom you have good chemistry. I get a sense of that in the original post: "...we have a very warm, friendly relationship in addition to the sex.

Here in Houston, I've noticed that some gentleman callers adjust their rates, upwards and downwards, according to the day of the week, the month of the year, and whether there are any big conventions in town. Like most everyone, I have an "entertainment" budget and, if my favorite gentleman caller is either too expensive or not available, I will wait for an adjustment in rates that falls in line with my expectations. Also, I find, at least here, that the newbies, if they are serious about business and building a clientele, will start off at the $150.00/hour rate (or so) and, as their popularity and business increases, they move up in price. In Houston, you can get top quality for between $150.00 and $250.00 per hour with substantial discounts for multiple-hour, evening, overnight, and extended periods.

There are lean times for escorts as well as clients. If a client were a regular and a frequent flyer, I think it would be better in most cases for the escort to grandfather the rate for his frequent flyers because of the steady business they provide. Raising the price up by 25 or 50 dollars- might drive the frequent flyers away and in the end- won't that make more of a dent in the escort's bottom line than he would gain from from the 25 or 50 dollars extra per session.

I built my biz by keeping the regulars rates the same. When the published rate went up I informed my loyal regs that theirs would stay the same as long as they saw me. This model worked for me for a long time. The clients appreciated it and it was reflected in higher tips. However, what works for ME might not work for another guy. Question is this: how much do you like this guy? Is there someone else in your market who is just as hot and can provide the service 4 less? Escorting is all about competion and these days the competition is fierce! - friendly, but fierce. http://www.rentboy.com/mikey9nola1

I think I would also be influenced by how competitive his new rates are. Did he raise them to the same level as his competition, or higher?

I've only had one regular escort raise his rates on me, and once I got over the initial displeasure, I realized that they were STILL on the low end of the scale. And I kept hiring him.

I went to the doctor today and he charged me $350 for an office visit. I've been seeing him for over 10 years and his rate has risen from $150 to $200 to $250 to $300 to $350 and his exams haven't gotten any better!

Surely you don't mean JUST an office visit for a cold or whatever? A full physical exam with blood work, etc. can easily top $600. So, not prying, but what can the doc do that is worth $350 for an "office visit"? Just curious.

Best regards,

KMEM

This is about supply and demand.

Thinking back quite a few years ago, the only real conversation I had with an escort about rates was with someone I first met responding to his escort ad but our relationship evolved into non-sexual friendship over time. At one point he told me that he had jacked up his rates because he was getting many more calls than he could handle at his old rate, and raising rates was a way to cut back to a more manageable schedule without losing income... and it worked for him.

An escort is a business person who will charge what the market will support. If he's not getting enough calls, he may lower his price a bit. If he's got a really healthy flow of business, he may experiment with an increase. If he thinks he'll lose clients that he wants to keep, he'll make exceptions for them.

The point is I don't think we as clients should be bothered if an escort we've been saying raises his prices. That there is a recession going on is not the issue. The guy is trying to make a living in a business that for most escorts doesn't last very long, not to find and keep a list of boyfriends.

Yep, it’s all about economics!

These guys are running a business and they should think like businessmen. Indeed the most successful from a business point of view in all likelihood do think as a businessman. Hence all those rules of basic economics come into play… supply and demand, the law of diminishing returns, etc. Of course part of running a successful operation includes how one treats their clients and in this regard the business person needs to evaluate the situation as it applies to his attempt to make a profit, be fair to those who have shown loyalty, and be fair to others who are using his services for the first time. Many businesses run special offers such a offering certain discounts for seniors, etc., visit so many times and get a free or discounted visit, etc. so such arrangements should not be seen as uncommon. With any luck the discounts and or price adjustments (be they up or down) are well thought out and are based on sound economics principles. One can operate a business, be as busy as hell… and never make a decent profit. One can’t survive on goodwill and hand-outs alone, though the savvy entrepreneur will know when and how to apply such aspects and techniques to his advantage.

Now, from personal experience anytime there are upward price adjustments one is likely to loose a bit of business… it is all part of the law of supply and demand… and more importantly it is simply part of the human mindset for a certain percentage of clients to react in such a manner… in essence the laws of economics can fundamentally be attributed to basic human nature.
