I've noticed this before--that often photographers pose handsome, athletic men with objects they think will enhance the visual effect. Sorry, sometimes you miss the mark. Number 9 for example: his manscaped chest and lean arms are attractive, but they just don't fit the dirty half-shovel. 9 doesn't look like he would know what to do with any kind of shovel--doesn't mean he's not attractive, he is. But pose him more realistically.

Number 14 on the other hand fits perfectly in the background and the shiny car---looks like he just pulled into the local watering hole for a pit stop )

And Number 20: anyone who has ever lifted a bale of hay or straw knows that if you do it without a shirt you end up with scrapes, scrathches, and a rash, not to mention the chaff down his semi-open jeans!!

I know, I know, these photos have nothing to do with "reality" but come on, even fantasy has more appeal if it is somewhat plausible? NO??

I understand what you're saying, but we all need a little fantasy of our choosing in our lives. Growing up near a farm, # 20 brings back memories to me of "happy" times spent in the hayloft. horse blanket and saddle do wonders to keep the hay away. Even so, the scratches and itches were well worth the reward.

That's work on the part of the OP to supply the Forum a bit of entertainment for nothing more than a bit of approbation here and there. IMO, if you don't have anything positive to say about an image it would be better to say nothing than to deliver a critique.

JAG (and Samai) -- At first, I was wondering about Samai's comment. But then I thought about and realized it was aimed at the photographer/art director than anything else. In thinking about it, quite a few of the pics are unrealistic -- that's why they are fantasy. And I hope they paid that model a bit more for his up close encounter with the hay. But when I'm choosing the pics, it is simply for the guy and the image he is presenting -- not necessarily for the milieu of the picture. So I really am fine with Samai's comment. I actually kind of appreciate the negative feedback as well because I want to try to put out galleries that most people can enjoy. Not every pic is for everyone (not even me). Certainly not every gallery is a hit. But to try to give the forum members what they would like to see, any feedback is appreciated --as long as it's done civilly, which I took his comments to be.

 

JAG, you more than anyone else understand what it takes to put the galleries together. I don't know about you, but I'm probably spending 15-20 hours a week (minimum) putting them together. And I gladly do it because I do feel a responsibility to pay back to the forum all that it has given me in the last year. As far as personal rules for me choosing pictures, I only have a couple: any pic with a guy smoking is out. As is anything that would hint at barebacking (although I pooch that one from time to time). And I do try to avoid pics from some of the pay sites such as Corbin Fisher and Sean Cody when I can possibly help it. Other than that, it's simply a matter of finding what I think works. What works for everyone else will be a question posted a bit later on in a new thread I'm writing. But I have to hit the gym now so I can do my damnedest to try to look even 1/10th as good as any of these guys. Now that would be a fantasy.
