Once again we tend to stray from the original post. It was NOT asking about minoriteis or majorities, it was a simple question merely asking if you were surprised by the # of guys using escorts (the question just being based on my observation of posts made here). Not sure why we continue to over analayze and over think every post, but I do appreciate the replies none-the-less.

 

That's a hard question to answer, because I've never seen a study that names a number or percentage. I honestly have no idea.

Jj as I see it we are NOT answering your question because it is unanswerable. Other than for a few friends I have made on this site who I trust to tell the truth regarding their hiring practices I don’t have any idea how many of us are or are not hiring escorts. Since I don’t have a clue how many of us are hiring how can I be surprised by the number of us who are hiring. To address your original question I MUST have facts to do so and I don’t have any thus I cannot answer your question.

I am not surprised by the number of guys that use escorts. In talking to friends I find most (over 50%) have used escorts. Friends from 25 to 75 years of age. Before AIDS a gay man could walk out his door and easily get sex. With the AIDS epidemic sex was harder to get. Gay men needed and wanted sex so they turned to escorts. Many gay men like convenience, have disposable income, and are self indulgent. If you included massages with release or erotic massages in the "escort" category the percentage would probably go to 80%.

Of course there are more escorts advertising. Unemployment is at 9.2%. Some escorts work part-time and escort to supplement their income. Others are full-time escorts. In Germany after the First World War soldiers returned home to a nation with no jobs. Many worked as "gigolos." In 1978 there was a film with David Bowie and Marlene Dietrich titled "Just a Gigolo" on that subject. The film glamorized the subject with a cabaret-type bordello for the ladies and Miss Dietrich as the Madame of the house. As far as the gigolos being available for both sexes . . . you'd have to read between the lines . . . though, Berlin, after WW1 and before WW2 was infamous for being "decadent." So it wouldn't be a stretch to infer that "switch hitting" was not uncommon. jjk: since you're new here at the forum, I'm wondering if you were just surprised that a forum like this existed and that quite a few posted at it...and, therefore, felt there are quite a few people in the entire population that hire....as said here, it's very likely that a very small minority of the general population ever has hired an escort - straight, bi, gay, married, single, whatever....it's very much a "fringe" situation, very private....and the internet has changed so much of it (as it has a lot of things).....gotta keep it all balanced with the rest of your life....don't take it too seriously....have fun, be safe.....all common sense stuff.....

Actually according to this very site statistics (and as confirmed par Deej) the Message Board attracts merely 10% of the global site's traffic.

I am not surprised by the number of men who hire escorts as I have no knowledge of how many do so nor do I have a preconceived notion of how many might. i was surprised by dessert as I was expecting blueberries in cream and I wound up with raspberries in cream, that almost floored me.

This raises an interesting point - how many of us have been involved in relations with others that took advantage of our generosity but we were blinded by the manipulative offer(s) of sex - I think it would be safe to go out on a limb here and say even more than have hired escorts on a continuous basis - my 2 cents !!!

As usual - it would be difficult to disagree with Steven's lucid observations / comments !

Another interesting note / observation from my decades of travel . . . 2 cities (by virtue of urban density) and the fact that they are gateways to their continents - dominate the escorting scene. I have long maintained that if we were able to create a male escort economic barometer for success / choice / diversity of offering and value for $$$ - the resounding winners are by far New York and London ... I would conservatively estimate that on any given day no fewer than 1000 escorts are working those 2 incredible cities. SO - in conclusion to this interesting thread - many ways to slice the pie in evaluating escort usage / service retention ! It's rare for any friend to claim disappointment in either of those cities regardless of a new hire or tried, true and trusted ... ENJOY !!! And experienced renters know the scammers, players and hustlers and we exchange /share that info primarily here (and a few other places) and attempt to keep everyone in the loop with a view to safety and a GOOD time!

Bootdad, the guys of which you speak are really no better than escorts, except they dont carry the title as such. My feeling is, you can only be "used" if you allow yourself to be. Be ruled by your brain, not by your BONER.

I would love to hire for an overnight but cannot afford it. To me hiring is about the freedom of being able to enjoy the physical aspect of sex without the baggage of a relationship. But that's just my personal take on it.
