What advice can you give me for an economical hotel in NYC? I hate paying a lot for a hotel room and $200 looks like the cheapest nightly rate. Can I get something cheaper (closer to $150 but not a dump) using Priceline's bid feature? Should I consider something off Manhattan? Do most escorts in NYC live in Manhattan and charge extra for going off the island? I think a fair number live in Brooklyn - should I stay there instead?

Thanks.

I suggest you try hotels.com. I live in Manhattan but get hotel rooms once in a while when I let relatives stay in my studio apartment. I've gotten decent hotel rooms for less than $150 in Hotel 373 (near the Empire State Bldg) and even at the Paramount in Times Square. Of course, the rooms are super tiny but all you really need is a bed :-) Assuming of course you are not too noisy in bed, because I'm sure they can hear in the corridors.

if available, go for the newer, more modern hotels. Avoid those older dumps around Times Square like the Hotel Carter.

Anyway, the reviews at hotels.com will tell you which ones are the dumps.

Good luck!

For 150 your best bet is priceline, hotels.com, or the part of expedia that essentially follows the priceline example-ie you don't know which hotel you're booking until after your done-the down side is you pay up front and the rooms are non-refundable so if there's a chance your plans will change... Don't know your dates but just looked what expedia is offering and they have a 4 star times sq theatre district hotel listed for June 18, 19 for 151. Of course when you add in the taxes etc that 151 is more like 175, but thats still good for NYC in the summer. 4 stars are usually very nice. I did it in March and was very pleased

Jane Hotel

For very hip but also a very specific (but not bad) location a few friends have stayed at the Jane Hotel. It's Jane Street at the West Side Hwy in the West Village. It's an historic hotel built on the waterfront for seamen (yes really). They have a lot of small rooms with shared bath for sailors but totally redone. The hotel and bar attract a very hip clientele. There is a restaurant too. You are near the Christopher Street Pier with lots of bathing beauties in the summer. Small rooms are $99 and larger rooms--very large for NYC -- are $225 or something. They have private bath. May not be what tour looking for but thought I'd mention.

Or just book an overnight with your preferred escort?

But wouldn't that only solve the original poster's problem if the escort took in-calls, in which case he wouldn't need the hotels anyway? I wouldn't think most escorts would do an overnight in their own place. Perhaps I misunderstood your suggestion.

The Vikram Chatwal hotel group operates a small chain of stylish, gay-friendly boutique hotels in NYC which includes the sexy 'Night Hotel'. Although their prices are slightly above the range you mentioned, I suggest you get on their email list because they announce great promotions from time to time. The link is as follows:

Speaking as a NYC escort who lives in Brooklyn, I can tell you that hotel rooms (as well as everything else) is MUCH cheaper on this side of the river. The best western in Park Slope is well under a hundred dollars a night and it's very nice, clean, and about twice the size of a Manhattan hotel room. I have never even tried using priceline or hotels.com because the retail rate is already so low, but you may even be able to go lower.

The ride to Manhattan on the subway is only about 20 mins, and you're saving at least 50%. Plus, there's so much to see in Brooklyn as well!

Enjoy your trip.

An interesting budget option is the Desmond Tutu Conference center run as an intimate 60-room hotel on the grounds of the Chelsea Theological Seminary, 2 blocks from my place. The hotel portion was recently open as an "operating" hotel run by a catering company. In the past, friends would stay there (with a curfew) for about 70$/room. I think the prices are higher (less than 200) these days but what you get is a lovely location, very clean room, and modern (according to the website). Not sure if there is a curfew or any policy on "guests" but just throwing out another option for you.

I like to use hotwire.com - generally what you get is pretty good, especially if it's been recommended by more than 85% of hotwire users and you don't end up spending an arm & a leg. Then again, you never know what the name of the hotel is and the last thing I think you want is to be staying in the super 8 lol.
