I think that their 'Lounge' is on the Concierge floors of the hotel. You either get there by gaining elite status or by buying Concierge level rooms.

You're correct, however I have found that after achieving Gold or (even better) Platinum Elite Status I book the most inexpensive room category and I have being systematically upgraded to a superior room category or a suite upon availability. In the long run you'll end up saving money by booking the least expensive room category instead of buying Concierge level room and you'll still get advantage of all the perks like access to the Lounge, free breakfast, free Internet ... Loyalty does pay back.

I have only had one of my clients ever bicker with me about where I stay. He did so before we got together, and then he continued to do so during his time with me.

Not only did he, in doing so, further develop his extremely arrogant, condescending, and snobbish air that amassed during our get-together, but he also ended up killing any chemistry or interest I had in spending that or any further time with him.

Though I was all smiles (and struggling to maintain my patience in light of his boarish behavior), I frankly couldn't have been happier when he left.

The lesson I learned: if someone is going to let where I am staying (when on my dime) dictate whether he wants to see me, odds are high that our personalities and chemistries may very well be a miss.

MER - Really not your client's place to suggest where you choose to stay. I'd say that he was totally out of line.

I'll be one of the squirrels who jumps out in defense of being economical (as an escort).

I don't charge an arm and a leg for my time, and oftentimes I eat expenses my friends tell me I shouldn't. I have no problem staying where I want to stay--and though I'm not scrubbing the bottom of the barrel and staying at ancient Red Roof Inns or La Quintas remodeled six times over, I'm also not staying at the latest ritzy Embassy Suites-esque property.

At times I have tried using hotwire and such, and yes, I have gotten great rates. But on numerous occasions with these sites, when using the "name your own price" option, I ended up sacrificing the important element of location whenever it located the best rate and automatically booked me via their terms. In Atlanta and Denver both I ended up losing commitments because of location (seems like a tradeoff, huh?).

Well, you do know that you can choose your location on HotWire and Priceline correct? So I'm not quite sure how that could have caused you to miss commitments?

I also don't see anything wrong with staying at re-modeled 1 star hotels either. And it shouldn't bother anyone. Now, I generally try to avoid 1 star hotels for various reasons. However, with the amount that I travel and the fact that I'm generally traveling so I can go back home with alot of money means I'm not going to be going to the Residence Inn. And yes, the Residence Inn is a bit on the pricey side and generally they are not up for grabs on Priceline bids. Mariott has a Towneplace Suites that's a bit cheaper but of equal quality.

To date, I have stayed at several 1 and 2 star properties and had clients over and there was only 1 time someone was turned off by it. Again, take into consideration that going to smaller towns may mean 1 and 2 stars may be what's the most economical option, maybe even the only thing AVAILABLE for that night. In fact, there was a time I arrived into a city late in the evening. I couldn't go on HotWire or Priceline because it was after the cutoff time. I ended up going to a Motel 6. The next morning I had a client. Well, few months later he booked me again...and I was in a bit of a nicer hotel that time LOL.

So it goes to show, it really doesn't mean ANYTHING. It's about how you. A client would be happier walking into a Motel 6 with someone who matches the photos than to go to a Hyatt and meet someone who doesn't look anything like it.

And I do it the right way: even if I am staying at an economy motel, I'll have wine glasses packed, a bottle of wine chilled, candles, and stereo speakers. And as long as the room is clean and floor isn't more comfortable than the bed, everything else will fall into place...

I nominate Mr. Spears for Best Reply to the thread!

I stay wherever my client stays and I dress appropriate based on that. If he is staying at the Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton I make sure I pack a suit and if at the Best Western then I make sure I pack my leather...
