Hi gtx1

I too consider myself a marketing specialist but found that most guys do not have a clue about promoting their services, and to be honest, they don't care. I came to that conclusion because I've started my own Male Escort Directory, which is growing in popularity and search engine visibility and still escorts they don't want to advertise there, even if approached with a free advertising offer.

I can share my own experience with you so just drop me a line if you want.

Ouch! This post seems more like a plug for your escort listing service than it does a thoughtful response to the original post. But your response is so insulting to escorts as a whole, you've succeeded in alienating every escort on this board. Sorry to be snarky, but that's not what I'd expect from a "marketing specialist."

From the escort perspective, we are approached with inquiries from listing and promotion services regularly. It's very hard to tell which ones are legit, and even harder to suss out a new listing service that does not have a track record of longevity and proven results. There are plenty of stories of escort sites taking a listing and then being unrensponsive to making edits to listings, keeping old listings online, or worse taking the photos and having them show up on another site somewhere else on the web. So escorts may be dubious of your offer, even though (or because) it's a free offer.

If you're trying to build a new listing site and recruit listings, you need to be able to address these concerns. And unfortunately it may just take staying in business for a while and building trust before you get the response you're looking for.

Just had a quick look at your site. My first thought was to wonder if London behavior is typical of US & rest of world.

The other thing I noticed - in my quick look, I found 4 escorts whom your site lists as having a cock size of 3 inches/8 cm (obviously incorrect, as the pictures demonstrate). I'm guessing that's a bug in your site.

WOW!!! How more insulting can you be? I think there are many escorts who do a great job promoting their services and do have a clue as to what they are doing when it comes to promoting. I'm a bit unclear as to why you think escorts wouldn't even care about promoting their services. I think most escorts want to do well in this profession. If not, why are they in it?

I've never heard of Male Escort Directory. Perhaps instead of pointing out how escorts have no interest in promoting their services, you should focus on promoting your directory.

@nate_sf This was indeed a response to the original author of this thread with whom I intended to have a discussion about marketing escorts service. I sure know the London escort scene very well after 6 years to know what I am talking about. I was talking about "most" escorts and not the whole universe, I know some escorts over here that know how to promote themselves and how well they measure the amount of money they put into online directories, other sites or even offline. Boysoflondon.com is what I personally wanted, as and escort, from an escort directory. It's not perfect I know, as my knowledge of the programing language PHP is not great. It has some glitches that I need to correct and I have plans for content development. I often ask feedback as I did in this forum back in July (you can read it here) in order to make improvements. I also ask advertisers for feedback and suggestions. The directory hasn't been running for long time but I really don't think escorts are taking longevity into account in this case to turn down a free advertising offer.

I think it just the fact that escorts normally go where the rest of the crowd is going when it comes to choose the promotion mix. Simple. That is the only fact that can explain why there is over 110 escorts advertising in rentboy.com where I know it only attracts an American audience. I used to advertise there and I know that close to 100% of my contacts were North American. Why are the London escorts paying over £150 for a type of advertising that is going to reach a small segment of the market?

Talking about segmentation doesn't make more sense to advertise somewhere it targets the local area, specially if they are visible in the local search engines like Google.co.uk? Obviously I wouldn't disregard to include the American directories in my mix to cover the American audience but doesn't the price of the advertising there and the fact that there is so many escorts already advertising make it more difficult to reach a positive return on investment?

My objective was to help some of the guys with general marketing ideas applied to a non-traditional service industry.

I think there are some of the guys who already deserve advanced degrees in marketing. There are very well done listings, web sites, some are great social networkers, some are great communicators. I recognize and appreciate the quality of their approach to the market and enjoy their material when I come across it. It's the other guys that don't have the benefit of that "education" or inate understanding of how to promote your service that I offered to help.

Thanks for the post, but I just don't have the time due to these other committments to start another discussion at this point. Best of luck to you and I've found that if you offer a great product and market it right, you will get there.

Very interesting thread. As a client who has hired for a number of years (and only relatively recently discovered this forum) I have seen escorts who do a great job of marketing themselves and others that have opportunity for improvement. There are so many potential sub-topics that it will be interesting to see where gtx1goes with this.

One area I have noticed vast discrepancies is in how escorts respond to initial inquiries and this tells me a lot about the person. I have received everything from a one sentence (or sentence fragment) email to a canned but very professional response highlighting what to expect and next steps to take.

Escorts and clients - who do you think does a good job of marketing themselves?

Thanks for the post your observation is precisely my feelings and what led to the post.

Your question is a good one. Maybe a best and worst list? Not a evaluation of the escort but only on how good a job they do selling their services.

  • 10 months later...

In the past, I have made a gift of "social" calling cards to several lads who were "beyond", if you will, advertising on www venues such as RB and M4RN by reason of their exeptional physical beauty and personal charm; too, they had "real lives" which precluded exposure as a "prostitute". In itself, the card provided a tool by which they could introduce themselves to potential clients in public and private settings; and, offering to write their telephone number on the back of the card was a nice, "personal touch" which, on occasion, served to pique the "mark's" interest.

That's a given - but you have to still put your best foot forward. I've been with guys who are so much better in real life than their pictures that I wonder "What are they thinking?"

I'm sure that in MOST cases, its NOT their feet they are being hired for ?

Warning!

I have an advanced business degree and have served as VP of marketing in an uber-exclusive multibillion dollar company

If true, you wouldn't have made the numerous writing errors that appear in almost every post. If I were an escort, I wouldn't trust anyone who makes bold claims on an internet forum without obvious talent (or proof) to back up those claims.

I am not an escort, but this is a great thread. Threads have been on the Forum in the past about first appeal--pictures or descriptions. Marketing includes both of these plus communication skills. I personally think that 2 of the guys I know are professionals at marketing themselves--Romann of Chicago and Dave (AKA Rockin) of DC

I agree—I think one of the best things an escort can do to market himself is to respond to queries as quickly as possible. Perhaps that's what GTX is trying to tell me through reverse psychology by ignoring my request for his advertising insight.
