I only accept cash. No exceptions.

I used to accept Paypal but it seems that the efficient Paypal employees googled my email address and discovered that I was an escort, so they froze my account with money still in it. (The allegation being that it was money earned illegally, and also since they are a mormon owned company they were sure I was going to hell, so I would not need the money.)

An escort friend of mine who had an american bank account told me that Paypal had somehow communicated with his bank to let them know that he was managing illegal funds in his account.

Not cool.

When I know my client very well and I have a long story of trusting them I sometimes accept bank transfers but that is very rare. Cash still rules.

I work for an escort agency and when I see a client I go with a portable CC machine.

Why am I reminded of a Black Party performance where cutie Brett Wolfe bent over, someone swiped a credit card in his butt crack, and out popped a roll of quarters? Must. Clear. Mental. Image.

That must have been a long time ago a few years back Paypal got sued big time and lost for freezing peoples money from what I gathered paypal has since changed its ways and opened up ways to receive and send money taking the responsibility of knowing where and how the money was earned etc out of their own hands and now you can receive personal payments from friends for a huge variety of reasons.

I use pay pal and have for a long time and never have had a problem with it.

escorting is not illegal in most places (its a business) prostitution is. recieving money for sexual favors or for adult material is against the terms of service for paypal and any money you received simply cant be labeled as such when its sent to you. or it shall be rejected and sent back to the sender now.

Paypal has become such a huge company since the days they enforced there values and standards upon the general public at large. Mormon or not they want that commission as along as you are not committing a crime. which by USA standards and Canada standards you are not.

BTW another cc service for mobile devices call square is another great service I also use it but dont really get a lot of requests for CC payments. squareup.com

I thought Paypal was owned by eBay? What is the Mormon connection?

For me there have been a few times where a client has offered to send funds in advance via paypal for travel or to hold an appointment, but I've declined. I'd rather just wait and trust things will work out and receive cash.

I had a Paypal account for many years and I was quite happy with it, until a month ago.

After logging into Paypal, there was this message that said they were doing maintenance and they needed to verify my account. (Nope, this was not a message from a fraud.) Paypal wanted me to enter the number of a bank account that I was supposed to have.

Eeerrrr, I never entered a bank account with my Paypal account .....

After extensive searching I discovered the following : in the past I had used a Net Spend credit card to fund the Paypal account. With the Net Spend credit card I had specified the bank account in question. Unfortunate for Net Spend and Paypal, this account number was fake. (So no real information was sent from Net Spend to Paypal.) However, this showed me that Net Spend and Paypal exchange information and that they do not take the privacy of their customers serious.

Another interesting thing is that my Paypal account is located in the EU and therefore it's subject to the EU privacy directive. Sending and receiving this kind of sensitive information between organizations is a clear violation of the directive.

It was a mere coincidence that I discovered this. What bothers me is that if this kind of unexpected information is being exchanged between Paypal and other organizations, we can expect that more and other information is being kept and exchanged as well (but then without us knowing it!). Especially the fact that we apparently don't know which (!) information is being kept and collected and where (!) it is going is what I find disturbing.

It's up to every individual how to respond to this knowledge, but my advice for all those who have a Paypal account and who cherish their privacy is : close it. Another suggestion is to enter fake information if a field is required to be entered but when you're not comfortable with specifying the real information.

I hope this adds to the information that you're looking for.

Best regards, Anton.

Apologies, Anton, but I didn't quite follow this. Are you saying that PayPal already knew the (fake) bank account number? Or were they trying to get an account number from you? Did they show you the fake account number?

I know that PayPal prefers to debit directly from a bank account rather than a credit card.

a word of advice from someone who is very experienced: stick to cash 100% of the time. If a client cannot come up with $200 cash then it is not a client you want to see. It is anonymous and untraceable and very discreet. It is to the escort's and the client's advantage to use cash. Trust me I have tried it all and there is NOTHING wrong with checks, cards or paypal but it does complicate your life alot and is very time consuming. I would say in the last 3 years where I have only taken cash that I have truly only Lost two clients.....

Thanks, guys.

I've had several clients asking me to investigate PayPal as an option lately...and this is after 5 years of accepting nothing but cash.

I consider it for my tried and true clients....I don't know if I would allow it or pursue it with someone I don't know and trust (hmmm I guess the same policy as checks for me.)

*shrug*

I'm curious about the implications of the transactions on the taxation of revenues to the escort, along with the reality of loosing even the pretense of anonymity between client & escort. For sure, paypal knows who you both are.

Something about cold hard cash still sounds good to me when I'm warm, soft and contented.

Just recently, Paypal wanted to verify my account, and they asked for my account number I had with the Inter Net Bank ...

This means that Net Spend had given the name of the bank plus the account number to Paypal.

Paypal verify their accounts by verifying your bank account by depositing a small amount of money into it and then having you confirm the exact amount they deposited. So, their request for your bank account number is likely to have been simply to facilitate this process, rather than an indication that they already had your bank account number, though this does not explain how they knew the name of the bank you had registered when applying for the credit card.

If you're going to accept Paypal, my advice is to register an email address that you do not use in your advertising. Also, be aware that there is always the possibility that the client will later reverse the payment, leaving you with no recourse, so there is a degree of trust involved.

Mikey, PayPal comes handy when you fly for an overnight or a weekend with a client and when funds need to be transferred ahead of time to book an airfare or to cover a deposit.

yes, Steven, you are right. those are pretty much the only reasons why i used it.

thanks guys for your comments. i posted this under a different thread in the lounge, and got some good advice there, too. as such, i sent an email off to paypal, but am not holding my breath. six months is too long to do that, LOL.

anyway i dont want to be fighting all this stuff, i am a lover not a fighter and feel i have more to give in different ways than taking paypal to court or whatever

cheers,

Dave
